Another drawing I did in mid-2022 for a Tokyo Ghoul fanfic I was writing. Here's a translated excerpt of that scene:
(It's Juuzou's POV btw)
(...) I stepped away from the dance floor and walked over to Hanbee, whose expression seemed warm. Gabi-chan’s jacket was draped over his arm, while my glass was still half full on the counter.
— You seem to be enjoying yourself. — Hanbee said.
— It’s been really fun! — I took a deep breath to catch my breath. — I’m gonna grab something for her to drink, and I’ll refill my glass too.
— Alright!
I went back to the bar and ordered the drink my friend wanted, then grabbed a full, ice-cold glass for myself as well. I took a long sip, since I was still feeling tired from all that earlier excitement.
‘Today’s been better than I expected. I’m sweating a lot… do I smell? I guess I wouldn’t be the only one, with how many people are out there. Ah… I should do this more often! Clubs are fun!’
I walked calmly toward the center of the club, carrying the drinks, hoping to find her talking with Hanbee—but when I got there, I came across something… disappointing.
Gabi-chan and Kazuhiko were dancing. Together.
I can’t describe the feeling that took over me at the sight. I felt my chest tighten with my heavy breathing, my jaw clenching hard, a hazy fog clouding my mind. It genuinely pissed me off.
I didn’t know what to do, but I definitely didn’t want to stay there. I set the drinks down on the counter near Hanbee and started walking toward the club’s entrance.
— Mr. Suzuya, w-what’s wrong?!
— Don’t follow me.
I left the club as fast as I could. I just wanted to go home. I walked so heavily it felt like I could crack the ground beneath me, the anger only growing with every step, blinding me even to the path home. Fortunately, I wasn’t far.
It felt like I couldn’t breathe. An agonizing feeling. Suffocating. Torturous. It was exactly what I felt when I saw them together at the building—but a thousand times worse. It was more… intense. Rawer. I felt violent.
I got home so quickly that the trip back from the club felt faster than going there. The first thing I did was head straight to my room—I slammed the door so hard I thought it might come off its hinges. I paced back and forth, disoriented.
— Damn it… Damn it…!
I tried to steady my breathing as I leaned against the dresser. I was so angry I felt like I might explode from the inside, like a bomb. The image of the two of them together kept flashing in my mind, over and over again, and every time it did, I felt worse inside. I just wanted it to stop.
‘She was doing exactly the same thing. It’s like… I wasn’t even there. Those two… Those two…! It wasn’t supposed to be like this. It wasn’t!’
The anger peaked at that moment—I started growling as I swept everything off the dresser onto the floor. Some things shattered, making a loud noise, but I didn’t care at all. I only realized how out of breath I was when I looked at what I’d done.
— Those two… Gabi-chan… Why…? Why him?
I felt such a heavy weight that only then did I notice my face was wet.
— What…? … What is this?
Tears were streaming down, accompanied by a tight knot in my throat.
— No, no… wait, w-what do you mean?
My body sank onto the bed, exhausted. I was confused, yet still feeling so many things at once. And the tears kept falling—though I made no sound, they brought a certain relief.
‘This is so… strange. Why am I crying? I was doing so well, and then I saw Gabi-chan and Kazuhiko… Damn it.’
A scene I designed for a fanfic I was working on back in 2022. My style has changed quite a bit since then, but I remember spending a lot of time illustrating scenes from parts of the story.
Scene Context: The story begins shortly after Shinohara awakens from his coma. Things in Juuzou's life begin to improve significantly; the guilt dissipates, and his relationship with Takanashi (my OC) finally means something after years of friendship and fraternity. A few months later, an incident occurs in a Tokyo shopping center that takes many civilians by surprise—an attack by a mysterious group that had been causing problems for the TSC for some time. Shinohara was one of the civilians. Juuzou was there and couldn't do anything. Shinohara, still in fragile health from the recovering coma and his sudden hospitalization, dies three days later.
This scene shows a dialogue that takes place with Juuzou still in a state of denial, confused, with mixed feelings. Takanashi, who was present throughout the process and understands the gravity of Juuzou's loss, also suffers alongside him. The mysterious group was still at large, and the idea of bringing justice to the former investigator's death wasn't somente concrete... yet.
