Eurotarded dictatorships thought they could stand up to the sheer willpower of DEMOCRATIC HUNGARY. They were very wrong and have since been FREED.

Leave it to Paradox to make Siam the exact same colour as a nation separated from it by like 3 states...

When they made China blue, I liked it well enough and I think it contrasts well with the communists' red. But now Siam? Which is practically right next to China? Why? If they were separated by half of the planet, fine, but come on. What was wrong with Thailand's original colour? It certainly contrasted well with every other nation in the region.

How do we feel knowing that the alt-history for the Dutch East Indies all focus on the same revolution, rather than post revolution content?

For you to access the 3 main alt-hist paths for Indonesia, you have to go through a long and probably tedious revolution against the Dutch, carefully balancing tension so as to make sure the Dutch can't directly get involved in an open war.

However, the developers confirmed that majority of alt-hist content will focus on the revolution itself, rather than what happens afterwards. To me, this seems like a really bad idea. Because generally, high bars of entry such as difficult wars like Ethiopia and the 2nd Italo-Ethiopian War discourage people from playing nations. And lack of post-war content as a reward, as seen with the lackluster post-revolution branches for Indonesia (the entire Communist path pictured below) makes the situation even worse.

The main reason I feel like the only real option for alternate history being a long, drudging civil war is a bad idea because though it is innovative they way they're implemented the revolution, really nicely reusing a long forgotten feature (which is really good- please do more of this, especially with the Stalinist propaganda system!) in the Ethiopian war screen thingy, it will inevitably get stale after the first or second go around, really harming the replayability of the Indonesian tree as a whole. Especially with how poor the rewards are after said drudging. Those being:

The Communist path, which is neat but nothing special and very HOI4-ey, in that it's one of those '60% communism support in neighbour=civil war' type situations.

The Democratic path which is frankly pointless, nothing interesting occurs and the devs clearly favoured quantity of choice over quality and depth of fewer choices.

The Non-Aligned path which is your bog-standard military dictatorship path, with some Japanese cooperation but that's it. And that's all of the 3 main paths.

You might be wondering to yourself, where's the fascist path? Where's the monarchist path, for christ's sakes they drew up like 5 portraits for the various regional sultans and they're used almost nowhere in the whole focus tree?

Well, there is a sort of fascist path you can access following occupation but that's just as tiny as the other alt-history paths. But for the non-existent monarchist path, what were they thinking? They somehow found a way to bullshit Czechoslovakia having a monarchist path but they couldn't for Indonesia, for whom like 50% of their land is non-core, Princely states? Whose rulers all have portraits? And instead they chose the most boring possible option of a military dictatorship?

This seems like a really poor effort to me, sort of like the Russian Tsarist path, clearly rushed, being poor and forgettable as a result. Except, at least the Tsarist path had some substance to it.

What's your opinion of the matter? Do you like this approach or would you prefer some actually substance to the latter quater (what really should be at least half) of the Indonesian alternate history tree?

What is this? The devs finally realising that the 70 day focus is outdated and has little place in the game in it's current state? I never thought I'd see the day...

This beta updates have been giving me a tiny amount of hope that perhaps the devs do somewhat care for the quality of the game, in spite of the seemingly company-wide effort to enshittify.

I've seen the light with the (Italian) Sherman

Being quite a new player, my experiences with tanks in general has been somewhat rough to say the least lol. I'll be honest, I suck at the game, and that isn't helped by my playing Italy.

Anyways, my intention was to play up to the P26/40 at 3.3 (and I guess the Turan III at 4.0) and leave it there, as I had little interest in copy paste alliedslop/commuslop that dominates the rest of the tree up until near the end of it. Whilst grinding out the P26/40, I unlocked the Sherman V because I forgot to set research priorities so it was the one autopicked. And, well honestly, it's so much fun.

As mentioned previously, I suck really badly, I'd even consider a good to great game to consist of an assist, a kill or 3 and a cap. That's it. My K/D according to the lardass site is 0.73, for reference. And I'd like to mention that I don't rush in brainlessly, I try to get to decent sniping spots and I do pay attention and use sound and the map and such to make sure I don't just annihilated from the back. But even still, I'm not good.

However, tanks like the Turan I and especially now the Sherman have helped me improve, with their combinations of just generally good characteristics, like a good gun and decent armour. I'm typing this coming off a six* kills, one assist, no death game on what I'd consider one of my least favourite maps, White Rock Fortress (my real least favourite maps are the long range, flat ones which devolve into spawnsniping, like Fire Arc). And while the solid shot was initially rough with the Sherman, the APHE round is so good. In fact, my K/D for the Sherman V is one of the few I have that is positive (still only 1.43 but the bar is in hell) and for that I'm very pleased.

I never really dismissed the Shermans, but I also never really understood why such seemingly average tanks were glazed by folks like Spookston. But I guess I now have my answer. Anyways, that's all I have for now, time to get back on the 'grind' (I play for fun, I still don't really care to advance in the tree), I'll see you guys after the inevitable losing streak I'm about to experience.

*I killed a Firefly a second or two after the match ended, he had been truking the team so I was happy but it didn't count :(
