Soccer-Style Fan Support
The world cup has recently got me thinking, there has to be something more we could be doing at the stadium from a fans and organization standpoint to direct all the positive energy we have out here into hyping up the team that is uniquely Padres.
Don't get me wrong, the closing bells, walk-on event, and stuff like "Holy Sheets" are a great start, but they target individual players or end of game situations.
What if there was something that went on in the stadium after, say, the seventh inning stretch to inject some energy mid-late game.
I think the Padres already have the components on hand for something like this. Mainly the stadium bell and an ample supply of "Keep the faith" stadium graphics.
What if, in this seventh inning scenario, the stadium did a more coordinated chant that went something like:
*Bell toll*
"Keep!"
*Bell toll*
"The!"
*Bell toll*
"Faith"
*everyone either stomps or claps twice*
Repeat this three or four times and then end it with the friar repeatedly ringing the bell while the crowd goes nuts.
I think something like that'd be a great way to put one big jolt of energy back into the team with some innings left.
I get that the baseball fan experience is generally more mellow, so replicating the general vibe of soccer fans doesn't necessarily fit here, but I think taking a page from that kind of support could do well.
And yes, this is a result of me going down a rabbit hole today after witnessing the Norwegian world cup fans rowing.
Like poetry, it rhymes.
This division has the D-Backs and Padres tied, and matching their records in the last 10 games. Also, the Rockies now have the inverse of the Dodgers' record, over both the season and the last 10 games.
The Giants are there.
Other divisions wish they could be this coordinated.
Seriously though, if the Giants were just a little worse or bagged a weeklong hot streak, they'd have elevated our division into statiscal nirvana. Come on guys. It could've been a three-way tie or at least two two-way ties. It's like they don't even want to be here. Even the Dodgers contributed by both winning and graciously allowing other teams to win enough to be a statistical foil for the Rockies. Hopefully we can sort this out before the end of the season.
