We've given up on happiness | No one volunteers themselves
I feel like we've given up on happiness as a society, just handing each other coping advice like it's a real solution. "Lonely? Go meet people, call friends, Join some passion community." As if it's that simple. But notice: no one volunteers themselves. That's the quiet defeat. It's like loneliness can't be solved, only managed. So we never ask how our own presence might help.
I'm not saying we're doing anything wrong. I know it's hard. But maybe next time a friend says, "I want to hang out," try your best to be present yourself. And if you can't, don't just give the same old generic excuses. Make it your effort to connect them or get them involved somewhere in a non-generic way to get the social time they need. Am I alone in this observation, or is there truth to it?
