I need someone's perspective from Gen Z on a horrifying interaction today

At the supermarket, put my stuff on the conveyor, went to grab something while the other person ahead finished up. Came back, person still finishing paying.

In that time someone definitely 27-30 years old came in, some normal looking guy, whatever.

Me: Hey man mind if I get by *gesturing infront of him*? Just had to grab something real quick.

Him: Dead stare. No words. Slowly looks at his cart. Slowly pulls it back.

Me: Thanks sorry about that

Him: Silent. Dead stare. No words.

Literally: Does Gen Z just not interact as social human beings?

It was so.....weird...It really does feel like Gen Z are zombies who don't know how to do small talk, chit chat, or really anything light with strangers. Even at work it's similar. Like a combo of social death and inner death.

Gen Z, what is going through your heads? Is this just normal, that we don't speak with strangers any more?
