Contemplating Bermuda Big 4 Tax Manager Role

Hi everyone,

I'm currently a Tax Manager with a Big 4 firm in the Caribbean and have accepted an offer to join a Big 4 firm in Bermuda as a Tax Manager. The offer is around US$135k plus relocation and other benefits (excluding housing allowance).

At the same time, my current firm has presented a compelling retention package, including a fast-tracked promotion to Senior Manager, a retention bonus, a significant increase in salary and what appears to be a genuine leadership path within the short term.

My long-term goal is to position myself for leadership opportunities within the global Big 4 network, potentially in North America or another larger market.

For those with experience with such a move to Bermuda Big 4, I would appreciate your advice as well as feedback on:

  1. Is Bermuda tax experience generally viewed favorably by larger member firms?

  2. How long does it take to progress from Manager to SM as an internal expat who performs well?

  3. Which path do you think offers stronger long-term global mobility and career progression?

  4. If you were in my position, which option would you choose and why?

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has worked in Bermuda or has experience moving between Big 4 offices internationally. Thanks!

Moving to Bermuda on US$135k Big 4 Offer – Worth It?

Hi everyone,

I'm considering a Big 4 Manager role in Bermuda on US$135,000 and am trying to understand whether the move makes financial sense.

I'm a single professional (fiancée will join later) and my main concerns are:

Is US$135k considered a good salary in Bermuda today?

What is a realistic rent for a decent 1-bedroom apartment near EY?

How is the public transportation system and how would I fare without a vehicle?

How difficult is it to find housing before arriving?

After rent and normal living expenses, how much are people on similar salaries realistically saving each month?

Any others who have similar big 4 experience, would appreciate your insight.

Regards
