Hi all - looking for advice from people who have maybe experienced this or something similar which took them out in the peak blocks of their training just before race day.
Unfortunately over July 4 weekend I managed to rupture my eardrum diving off a boat, estimated healing time 6-8 weeks. Only light cardio recommended and definitely no swimming for at least a month. I’m 5 1/2 weeks out from IM Kalmar, my first full.
I’m a fairly decent swimmer (32mins in my last 70.3 in May) but even so, the idea of my next swim potentially being on race day is certainly intimidating. Not to mention the advice is not to do intense cardio for at least a few weeks. So when I should be peaking, for me is 15-17hr weeks, my ENT wants me to do at most 30min-1hr jogs or light biking.
What would you do in this situation? Anyone else suffered an injury like this in the weeks leading up to race day? It’s frustrating because I’m technically not injured, just recommended away from hard exercise.
