NAU Axe/ess  is a new course materials provisioning program for all students enrolled at NAU’s Flagstaff or Online campuses in undergraduate coursework.
NAU Axe/ess prioritizes digital content and charges the student account a flat rate of $270 for the Fall or Spring semester and $95 for the summer term for all required course materials.
By the first day of class, participating students can easily access provided course materials by logging onto their NAU Canvas account.

How does NAU Axe/ess work?

Once a student registers for courses, required course materials are identified based on faculty adoptions.
Digital materials are delivered directly in Canvas, where students can access their online materials and utilize tools such as highlighting, note-taking, and search features.
Physical materials are prepared by the campus store for in-store pick up and/or shipping directly to the student, depending on selected options.
Physical materials can be kept at the end of the term .
Follett, NAU’s campus store partner, works to coordinate sourcing and delivery of required materials so students receive the correct adopted materials in the correct format by the first day of class.

All NAU undergraduate students enrolled at the Flagstaff Campus or through NAU Online are automatically enrolled in NAU Axe/ess by default.
Students who do not wish to participate may opt out by the published deadline (generally the Last Day to Drop Courses without a “W”) each term with no penalty. Students who opt out are responsible for securing their required materials independently from the NAU Bookstore or another source.
Students may opt-out through their NAU Canvas account and may also opt back in to the program prior to the deadline.
Students must take action to opt out each term prior tot he deadline to have the charge removed from their account.

What type of materials are included?

What is the difference between “Required” and “Recommended” materials?

How do students receive physical materials?

If a course requires physical materials:
In-Store Pickup
Students will receive an email when materials are ready for pickup
Students must show their Student ID when picking up materials
Shipping (if applicable)
Shipping may be an option depending on the student’s location.  The NAU campus store will make shipping arrangements on a case-by-case basis.
What happens if a student adds or drops a course?

Added Courses
Within 24 hours of adding a course, students will automatically receive access details for required digital materials in NAU Canvas. If physical materials are required, the campus store will notify the student when they are ready.
Dropped Courses
Access to digital materials will be disabled after the drop deadline.
If physical materials were provided, they must be returned to the campus store.
Do students keep their materials at the end of the term?

Physical materials may be kept by the student at the end of the term and do not need to be returned. Digital materials remain accessible for a minimum of 180 days depending on publisher terms.
