What do you wish you knew before starting college?

For current students and recent graduates, what is something you wish you had known before your freshman year?

It could be about choosing classes, professors, managing your workload, making friends, dorm life, clubs, budgeting, internships, or balancing academics with having a social life. I’d also appreciate any advice on common freshman mistakes and underrated opportunities students should take advantage of early.

How difficult is BU Engineering, and what do you wish you knew as a freshman?

’m interested in hearing from current or former Boston University engineering students about their experience in the program.

How rigorous are the introductory math, physics, and engineering courses? Is earning an A realistic, and how manageable is the workload when taking several technical classes together? I’d also appreciate any thoughts on grading, class sizes, professors, group projects, research opportunities, internships, and the general level of collaboration versus competition.

Are there particular professors or courses freshmen should look out for? Do you still have enough time for clubs, friends, and activities outside engineering? Overall, have you found the program enjoyable and worth the workload—and what do you wish you had known before starting?

What’s something you wish you knew before starting at Carleton College?

I’m curious to hear from current students and alumni: what is something you wish you had known before your first year at Carleton?

It could be about academics, professors, campus culture, Northfield, housing, weather, clubs, making friends, or anything else. I’d also love to hear about any underrated traditions, classes, or places on campus that new students should know about.
