Swiftie State of the Union: How does Taylor move forward with her diaristic songwriting?
I’ve been trying to revisit Showgirl since the anniversary of the album announcement is coming up next week. My main issue with the album is not “Travis is a bad muse” in the sense that he can’t inspire good art from Taylor but because it’s precisely the fact that he makes her happy and she wants to understandably protect their relationship that the album’s lyricism is far removed.
There’s an evident push and pull throughout her discography around how the men she dates feel uncomfortable with the ever-present possibility of a song being written about them. This was true of her relationship with Joe and a point of contention in their dynamic. There was a reason when Midnights dropped Swifties complained she was still writing about the initial meeting and early stages of their relationship because (without the added context of Matty) she was trying to avoid intense scrutiny of the intimacies of their life together while offering up the diaristic songwriting she’s known for. In a fully fleshed out “character” in a song, there are going to have to be elements that show your relationship or partner in a potentially unflattering light.
Taylor does not seem to want to offer that up for public consumption in the context of her relationship with Travis. His presence and what we know of him through song is only that he is the man who saved her. We know nothing of his qualities beyond he makes her happy. That’s her right to protect. However it raises questions about where she goes from here if the diaristic songwriting she’s known for can’t fully exist anymore despite Taylor being such a reactive artist. Will she return to fictional songwriting like folklore and would that be received well after training Swifties to expect transparency in her songs?

A timeline of Taylor's friendship with Keleigh and Miles Teller (2014-2025)
A post asking for a Deep Dive about what happened between the Tellers and Taylor was posted recently and I procrastinated hard enough to do my best at completing a timeline of their friendship. I have probably missed things and due to Reddit restrictions can't include as many images as I would've liked but I tried my best to cover everything. You can draw your own conclusions based on what's out there, this is just for fun. I have to shoutout u/glowoffthepavement for their initial timeline until mid 2023. While I am not a Gaylor and I added a lot to the timeline since then I wouldn't have found the early interactions without their post and so it would be rude not to give credit to them! Enjoy.
December 2014 - Keleigh tweets a photo with Taylor and Jessica Szohr that looks to be taken at the afterparty for That Awkward Moment starring Miles in LA earlier that year.
March 2015 - Keleigh attends Camila Cabello's 18th birthday party which Taylor hosted.
August 2015 - Keleigh attends the 1989 World Tour
May 2018 - Keleigh and Miles attend the Reputation tour in California
September 2019 - Keleigh and Miles get married, Taylor doesn't attend the wedding but sends flowers and a note to the couple. Keleigh captions her wedding post with lyrics from Lover (not retroactively edited)
July 2020 - On July 24, Keleigh shares a photo of the folklore cardigan that Taylor sent her.
November 2021 - Keleigh changes a bunch of the captions on her posts on Instagram to reference Taylor or her lyrics, including "Swifties" "spinning like a girl in a brand new dress" "You’re a cowboy like me" etc presumably in the lead up to the IBYTAM music video.
November 13 - Taylor performs on Saturday Night Live with host Jonathan Majors, where Miles posts a picture on Twitter of Keleigh watching Taylor
November 15 - Taylor releases the music video for I Bet You Think About Me for Red (Taylor's Version) starring Miles and Keleigh.

June 2022 - Keleigh posts a TikTok of her and Miles to This Love (Taylor's Version) when it drops
July 2022 - Miles talks about the music video and Keleigh's emotional reaction to it:
"When we were shooting the music video, Taylor played for Keleigh the ‘All Too Well (10 Minute Version)' for the first time. Keleigh was just looking at Taylor in her wedding dress and Taylor and I dancing while she was listening to ‘All Too Well,' the new one, and she was just bawling her eyes out."
While the actor explained that "I Bet You Think About Me" will always be the Taylor song that has a special place in his heart, he noted that Keleigh plays the singer's discography "all the time," adding, "In my house, it's a lot of Taylor."

December 13 - Taylor goes out with Keleigh and Miles and then again later goes to her birthday party with them:
Deuxmoi posts a blind item that Travis bought Taylor the Opal ring she's wearing in the image above.
December 15 - Keleigh likes a TikTok speculating that Travis got Taylor this ring in part because of pap pictures of Taylor showing the couple her ring.
December 17 - Keleigh posts a story calling Deuxmoi out by name and claims that she bought the ring instead and posts a video of Taylor's reaction to the ring

April 2024 - After the release of The Tortured Poets Department, Keleigh posts nine TikToks related to the album. She replies to fans in some comments:
>"When one fan named “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” as their top pick (valid), Teller replied, “As a friend, this one hurts so much. She goes on stage sad or happy it’s so incredible.”
A different commenter had “So High School” as their fave “because she’s found her someone.” Teller replied, “Aw ya wow so many people are choosing that as so far fav!”
Keleigh also tweets lyrics to So Long, London after not using the platform in months and likes shady tweets about Joe. "yb" in this instance refers to the nickname "yoghurt boy" which some fans called Joe after the breakup as a tie to lyrics in Invisible String about Joe's first job at a yoghurt shop. She also responds to someone on a Tiktok she posted in London with the song as the sound. There are numerous other posts she liked but Reddit only allows up to 20 images per post so I can't include them. Allegedly from some people's comments in threads she liked a post implying Joe was abusive towards Taylor but I have yet to find confirmation of this.
September 2024 - Keleigh posts an Instagram story showing she had a picture of her, Miles, Zoe Kravitz and Taylor at Taylor's birthday party framed on her wall in her "glam room"
January 2025 - The LA wildfires happen and Keleigh and Miles's home burns down.
February 2025 - Miles is asked if he'll be sitting with Taylor in her Superbowl suite again "Thankfully, when I was at the Chiefs' last Super Bowl, they weren't playing the Eagles, but this year, I'm going to be in a sea of green. She's [Keleigh] a diehard Birds fan. She might be a Southern California girl, but you marry into Philadelphia sports and that is it"
May 2025 - Keleigh likes Taylor's post about buying her masters back
August 2025 - Keleigh likes Taylor's engagement post with Travis but does not acknowledge anything about Showgirl.
September 2025 - Miles is asked about Taylor and Travis's engagement while promoting his film Eternity to which he says "It's really exciting anytime you kind of find that person who you want to spend forever with. That's you know, that's the first step of a long life of companionships." He laughs off the interview suggesting double dating.
November 2025 - Miles is asked if he'll go to Taylor and Travis's wedding and replies “I don’t know. That is gonna be — I imagine — one impressive wedding. But yeah, just very happy for them. I’ve known Trav for a while, too, and I think they’re having a blast. That’s the point.”
Miles goes on the New Heights podcast with Travis to promote Eternity and Keleigh comments '🥳🥳' on the New Heights clip announcing his episode.
June 2026 - This is where it gets gossip-y and unverified. Proceed at your own risk.
TMZ reports that Taylor had a falling out with Miles and Keleigh:
>"Whether the two will attend the singer’s wedding to Travis Kelce remains up in the air, TMZ has learned. Sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ ... Keleigh and Taylor are not the BFFs they once were ... with mutuals of the two hopeful things will be reconciled before the wedding. The source described it as being a “sad time” for the friendship. Another source said Taylor and Keleigh grew apart due to differences in their lifestyles. As for what that exactly means ... no one is willing to say. Not yet, anyway."
The Daily Mail releases a looooong article detailing the alleged fallout between Taylor and the Tellers. The source is questionable at best but seems suspiciously detailed to pull completely out of their ass, but it is the Daily Mail.
About Keleigh and Miles setting up Taylor and Travis:
>When romance started blossoming between Swift and Kelce, Keleigh would reportedly act as the 'go-between' for her famous friend and the NFL star.
'Travis wasn't looking for anything serious and once you get into the Taylor world, it's instantly serious,' our source said, before noting that Keleigh really pushed for the new couple to take things to the next level. A second source also confirmed this.
About alleged tensions between Blake and Keleigh:
>Blake Lively, one of Swift's other best friends at the time, had allegedly become envious of Keleigh, according to an insider who claimed the actress 'felt threatened by Keleigh and Taylor's closeness and tried to tear their friendship apart to be Taylor's number one.'
They claimed Lively, 38, who was often photographed with the singer in New York, felt 'jealous' when she saw a paparazzi shot of Swift and Keleigh leaving the city's Electric Lady Studios together in 2023.
The first source claimed those allegations are on par with what they know of the It Ends With Us star, claiming Lively was 'not generally very welcoming of other people into the fold.'
The second source claimed Keleigh was also turned off when Lively's private texts, in which she referred to Swift as her 'dragon' friend, leaked online during Lively's legal dispute with her It Ends With Us co-star Justin Baldoni.
'Keleigh didn't want to be a part of it, and couldn't believe they were talking like that to each other,' they said.
About an alleged fight between Taylor and Keleigh:
>Tensions allegedly also came to a head the day before a major awards show, which Swift had reportedly invited Keleigh to attend as a guest. According to our second source, Swift was 'not empathetic' and an argument erupted when Keleigh pulled out for personal reasons.
'Friends told Keleigh to protect her mental health, she needs to take space, but they were still in contact here and there,' the source said. 'Keleigh's friends were very protective.'
Keleigh allegedly didn't listen to the advice and tried to keep Swift in her life. 'Nobody wants to be on the outside,' the first source claimed, adding that Keleigh's fervent loyalty to Swift despite any issues was because she 'wants to be relevant.' Tensions reportedly continued, though, as Keleigh allegedly began to feel that Swift was not making her and their friendship a priority. 'Keleigh told Taylor she felt like she was always playing second, third or even fourth fiddle to her other friends,' a third source claimed.
About the friendship ending:
>The first insider claimed people close to Swift and Kelce started feeling 'annoyed' with the Tellers and the group began to dismantle over differing 'lifestyles.'
The second source pushed back on that narrative, however, and alleged it was being spread to make the Tellers look bad.
They claimed Swift had not been acting like a good friend, using her apparent failure to contact the Tellers after they lost their home in the Pacific Palisades Fire as an example.
'When Keleigh and Miles's house burned down in the fires and Taylor didn't call or check in at all, Keleigh just let the friendship go,' the second source claimed. 'That was the nail in the coffin of the friendship.'
Defending Swift, a third insider claimed Swift was simply 'exhausted' and 'only in touch with very few people after almost two years on the road.'
Secretly at her wit's end, according to a source, Keleigh then liked a comment that read: 'Pretty sure the woman lost her damn home in a fire. I think there's way more things going on in her life than Taylor Swift. Good lord.'
About possible reconciliation:
>'All of our friends are currently trying to fix this but it's hard to come back from losing everything and not hearing from your once closest friend,' the second source said. They added that Keleigh allegedly feels that if she goes to Swift and Kelce's wedding, it will only serve to make 'Taylor look good' and will make her feel 'like a doormat.'
'Keleigh wants the friendship to work itself out naturally without media book ending it,' they added. 'She is literally still heartbroken.' But friends are reportedly encouraging her to make amends, saying: 'Look, just come and we'll all be fine after.'
Meanwhile, we're told Miles is 'absolutely disgusted' over some of the allegations that have come out online, particularly over the 'lifestyle differences.' The second source claimed that although the issues initially started between Swift and Keleigh, the feud boiled over to the men because Kelce allegedly didn't try to help. That source alleged that for a long time Kelce hadn't 'stepped in.'
However, we're told the tight end does feel 'bad' and there may have been attempts to reconnect with Miles recently. 'Taylor changes all the time,' said our first insider. 'She ebbs and flows with whoever she's hanging out with. The Keleigh relationship - she's just not doing that anymore.'
July 2026 - Keleigh and Miles do not attend Taylor and Travis's wedding at MSG.

Revisiting Taylor’s poem ‘If You’re Anything Like Me’ for Reputation
Ever since the wedding I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this poem particularly because of the “And no amount of friends at 25, Will fill the empty seat, At the lunch tables of your past, The teams that picked you last” lines. Reading the poem again I picked up on a couple other lines that have become more relevant recently:
“You knock on wood every time you make plans.” - Wood
“Your superstitions were the lone survivors of the shipwreck.” - So Long London
“If you're anything like me, You never wanted to lock your door, Your secret garden gate or your diary drawer” - I Hate It Here and the wedding being “Secret Garden” themed.

On Wish List Taylor positions herself as separate from the people who want all these materialistic goals because she just wants a life and family with Travis but her first project after Showgirl is an original song for TS5 that’s guaranteed to receive an Oscar push. It wasn’t my favorite song to begin with but it comes across as more disingenuous now trying to distance herself from other people when she obviously wants that too when there’s been all this promo already for IKI,IKY.
