New Scam in town
Today we discovered that unauthorized manager accounts were linked to our Google Ads account without our approval.
We first received an email notification saying our account had been linked to a Google manager account. Shortly after, new campaigns started appearing that were advertising completely different URLs and spending from our budget.
What’s especially concerning is that the users making the changes do NOT appear under:
Admin → Access & Security
We never authorized these users, yet they were still able to:
- create campaigns,
- modify account budgets,
- and spend money from our account.
Luckily we caught it early. They created campaigns with daily budgets in the thousands, but only managed to spend around $200 before we shut everything down and contacted Google support.
We’ve already escalated this to Google Ads support, but I’m posting this as a warning for others to immediately check:
- Manager account links (MCC access)
- Change history
- Billing/account budget changes
- Linked payment/billing profiles
