What does and does not work when your bank account is frozen due to delay in residence period extension?

Hi all,

I've applied for extension of stay, but it's looking highly likely it will take longer than the valid period of current status. This process is all online, so I only have the email from immigration.

Do any of the banks (in my case I have accounts with Yucho, Sony & SMBC(not Prestia)) accept this document and give you 2 months extra?

If not, I wanted to know what happens when the bank account is frozen? Do my automated salary deposits go in? What about automated withdrawals for credit card bill payments?

I guess without access to any bank accounts I can't manually pay credit card bills even if I have the cash, or is that possible?

Looking for an Indian national to be a witness for my marriage registration at the embassy

Hi all,

I'm planning to apply to register my wedding at the Indian embassy in Kudanshita soon (in a week or two). And the process requires atleast one Indian national as a witness.

If someone can help me out with this, I'd be very grateful. I'll cover train fare and also buy you lunch.

Btw, the date of appearing in person in Kudanshita would probably be sometime in November (on a weekday morning) if I apply in the next two weeks.

If someone wants more info on the process here is the official documentation from the embassy : https://www.indembassy-tokyo.gov.in/public_files/assets/pdf/Marriage_Form_20_05_2025.pdf

What documents do I need from my company to switch to NHI and national pension after being laid off

My company won't be renewing my contract after it ends this month. So from next month onwards, I'd have to switch to NHI and national pension. Now, I don't want there to be any delay in either payments as immigration as gotten very strict with it.

What documents (if any) would I need from my company to make this switch. Also from what I understand, for NHI, since I'm leaving my company involuntarily there's a way to apply for a discount or something. What's the process for that?

When can I apply a visa extension from my second job?

Hi all,

I'm planning to apply for extension of status of stay soon. But currently I work as an engineer through a Haken staffing agency and my contract ends on September 30th. So I can't apply for extension through them at this point.

And simultaneously I've had another job in the same industry/visa category so no issues there; and this was all done with permission from either employers, nothing shady. I'll be continuing to work with my second employer after September 30th too.

Now I was wondering, if I can apply for extension through my second employer before September 30th (to avoid the steep fee hike).

Would that cause any issue? Should I wait for October 1 after all?

Edit: Current SOR expires on December 10th, so I'm eligible to apply for an extension starting September 10th

Can you collect unemployment benefits if you have Kojin Jigyo (sole proprietorship)

Hi all, I wanted to ask about this since I only found conflicting information from multiple sources. But if you have had a Kojin Jigyo/sole proprietorship for a while, can you still collect unemployment benefits? I read somewhere that if the total work done is less than 20 hrs/week and 4 hrs/day you can still collect unemployment benefits. Is there any monthly pay cutoff as well? Or just having a kojin jigyo disqualifies you for benefits?

For background, I have had this kojin jigyo before starting full-time employment (as a contractor) and was working on both in parallel (this was all above board and done with prior permission). But my contract with my full time job is coming to an end and I am being let go soon. I have paid into unemployment insurance for over 1.5 years
