A Simple Wave Noise Machine

I live in 1970s flat with very thin walls. This is a very simple patch that I use to create background noise to drown out my neighbours while I'm writing. Each of 7 colours of noise from the VCV NOIS module is modulated by a VCA controlled by a chaotic (strange attractor) LFO. The "black" noise is also filtered (LPF) to simulate "wind noise". The reverb is set to 0 damping and 100 decay, which gives each pulse a long tail, without having to use an envelope generator. And voila, I am at Piha Beach again in my imagination.

Not all patches are musical or complicated.

In Buddhist Studies there is a long running dispute over the historicity of the Buddha (which simply ignores parallel disputes in Christianity and other religions).

On one hand, historians argue that there are no primary sources or even archaeology that can be linked to him, and thus the Buddha is not an historical figure. The historical record of Buddhism begins in the mid-3rd century with the edicts erected by Emperor Asoka.

OTOH, philologists and linguists, well used to reconstructing past versions of texts and languages, argue that they can accurately infer historical facts about the 5th century BCE using texts that cannot be confirmed to exist before the 5th century CE, but which are plausibly conjectured to date from ca 1st century BCE - 1st century CE.

What does it take to establish the historicity of a figure from the ancient (i.e. pre Common Era) world?
