Every Lane Becomes a Turn Only Lane

Part of my commute takes me down Broadway in SoPo. It took me like 5 weeks to finally make a clean run without getting trapped in a turn only lane somewhere. I pull up to a red light. Cars are backed up 10 or 12 deep in each lane. I can't see any signs or painted indicators on the road. Traffic finally starts to move, and all of a sudden I realize I'm taking a surprise detour because it's a turn lane. Sometimes the right lane. Sometimes the left lane. Sometimes the right lane in one intersection and the left lane in the next intersection, meaning every car trying to continue down Broadway has to cross the intersection and immediately change lanes.

On the plus side, I've thoroughly explored South Portland.

Need a new podcast

Man 2 Man is done. I just found out. I'm devastated. What should I listen to now? With camp going and Hard Knocks dropping I need my fix.

▲ 101 r/steak

Changed a lot of variables this time.

Bought a whole prime rib roast from Costco. Cut steaks, ground the trim meat and rendered the fat chunks into tallow. Last night I made ribeye smash burgers, and if I ever win the lottery, that's all I'm eating.

24 hour dry brine on the steak, smoked on the Searwood at 225 until 127 internal. Pulled, rested for 45 minutes or so, seared over the Solo stove for like a minute and a half. It was approximately hot as fuck. Smallest grey band I've achieved thus far.

Best Bonfire 1.0 table

What's everyone using currently? The price for the official Solo stove surround is a little steep. A lot of the links I found in this sub are dead.

Breaking in the new Searwood with my first Picanha attempt

Smoked at 225 until it hit 120. Rested while the grill came up to 600. Seared for color, probably 2-3 minutes on the fat side and 1 minute on the meat side. Good. Next time I'll take it to 122 or 123, it was just on the edge of too rare for my wife.

After a 12 hour day, my U-Haul blew a tire 20 minutes from the hotel.

Now I get to wait on the side of the highway for an hour because U-Hauls don't come with spares. Turns out having a floor jack, impact wrench, air compressor and tool box isn't helpful if you don't have parts.

Brass Belt Buckle PSA

Getting ready for my PCS. I just busted out the ol' "brass" belt buckle to polish it up. To my dismay, it turned chrome. Turns out the Vanguard buckles from the exchange are coated nickel or some shit, and the coating is about as thick as... Something really small that's a modern and appropriate replacement for the term c-hair.

Fortunately, the Rothco 4406 is solid brass and available on Amazon for cheap. Like cheap enough those should just be what's issued.

I've probably bought 5 new buckles over the course of my career because every time I have to wear a dress uniform they look like shit. Hopefully this one will last.

Move Cabinets from "Office" to Kitchen?

Just bought a house. The first picture is a space labeled as an office. I'd actually like to use it as an office and put a desk where those cabinets are. The second picture is a spot in the kitchen that desperately needs some kind of storage (where the current sideboard hutch thing is under the stairs). Is it even possible, let alone economically feasible, to just move the cabinets from the office space to that wall? It SHOULD fit based on the measurements I can estimate from listing photos. Haven't actually been in the house yet. But the door style and hardware seem to match the kitchen so theoretically with a coat of paint it should be a match. Obviously there would be some trim/baseboard work and probably some electrical. But this seems like a 2 birds one stone scenario, and definitely cheaper than new custom work for that wall.

New Pellet + Propane replacement?

I currently have an old Camp Chef DLX and a big 4 burner char broil propane grill. It's nice having the propane for burgers, hotdogs, searing tri tips, etc., but we're getting ready to move and both grills need some work. The Camp Chef needs at least a new flame diverter drip pan piece and the propane grill needs at least grates. Both are starting to rust out and not sure it's worth spending the time and money to repair, and transport 3500 miles.

A few years ago I decided my next grill would be the Camp Chef Apex with the propane burners. Best of both worlds right? But it's discontinued.

Main use case is cooking for my wife and kid, so I don't normally need a lot of room, but we love to host and have fairly regular large gatherings.

Do newer pellet grills get hot enough, fast enough to replace propane completely? Do I look at split units, propane on one side and pellets on the other? Woodwind pro with sear box?

I've been out of the game for a few years, what's the community consensus? New grill will get stored in a garage so I won't have to worry about rusting out as much, I'm willing to invest in something nice that will last.
