How important is the Suneung in South Korea, and how common is private exam preparation?

From the outside, it seems like the Suneung is not just a university entrance exam, but a major national event that receives a lot of media attention and puts significant pressure on students and families.

And for students who do reasonably well but do not get into their preferred university in Korea, is there enough spots available at public universities or do they end up at private universities?

Got admitted, but the enrollment documents still mention TestAS (however, tjey mention my HZB too, which I have already uploaded as part of the application). Does that mean I actually need it? My average grade is sufficient: 2,4 based on the bavarian formula. Still, I'm nervous.

Hi everyone,

I’m an international student and a few days ago I received an admission offer from RWTH Aachen.

According to the Bavarian formula, my converted grade should be around 2.4. I am quite confident that even in a worst-case scenario regarding rounding, it would be at most 2.5 and not worse than that. Based on RWTH's TestAS color system, that should mean I do not need TestAS.

I converted the grade myself when applying using the Bavarian formula.

What is making me nervous is that in the application portal, the list of enrollment documents still includes a TestAS certificate. At the same time, it also says that I need to upload my Higher Education Entrance Qualification, even though I already uploaded it as part of my application.

The admission letter itself does not mention TestAS at all. It looks like a completely normal admission offer and does not contain any conditions or remarks related to TestAS.

My question is: if TestAS had actually been required and I had failed to submit it, would RWTH have issued an admission offer in the first place?

And if TestAS is in fact required, how am I supposed to know that when neither the admission letter nor any other communication from RWTH says anything about it?

I have already contacted the admissions office, but with the upcoming long weekend it may take a while before I receive a response.

Has anyone experienced something similar or knows how RWTH usually handles cases like this?

Thanks in advance!
