How do Croatiana(especially youth) travel to the Adriatic coast without a car? Is public transport not a thing for domestic trips?
Hi everyone!
We just arrived in Croatia from Hungary by bus. Everything went super smoothly: we did the Budapest to Krk island route in about 7 hours total, including a 1-hour layover in Zagreb.. By car, this same trip would take around 5 hours.. so public transport felt surprisingly efficient, if you dont have car as an option for some reason.
What really surprised us, though, was how empty the FlixBus was!.Two years ago, we had a similar experience with Arriva buses —they were half-emtpy.
Coming from Hungary, this is mind blowing to us. Back home, many people takes public transport to go to Lake Balaton (our main domestic holiday destination), and young people without cars rely on trains and buses almost exclusively.
This made us curious: How do Croatians usually travel to their own Adriatic coast? What about the youth? If someone doesn't own a car, how do they get to the seaside for a domestic trip? Do they just not go, or does the family drive them back and forth? Are there any local public transport hacks, trains, or car-sharing apps that only locals know about? ;)
Would love to hear how you guys do it! Thanks!
