I’m visiting Bergen, and every day I’ve seen the same elderly woman sitting at the corner of Torgallmenningen and Starvhusgaten. She sits in the same spot on a plastic crate, with a plastic Red Bull cup in front of her. She leaves the crate and the cup there overnight when she leaves.

Could she be backed by a gang that controls or oversees her spot? Is it possible that she is part of an organized begging operation or scam?

How is it profitable? As far as I know, cash is rarely used in Norway. I’ve never actually seen anyone pay with cash anywhere.
