Looking for good, self ai software projects to display on my resume. I cant think of anything to build besides things alot of people have already built.

Everyone wants to be an AI Engineer in 2026. The approach they take is breadth, not depth. People will learn RAG, Finetuning, Agentic AI, Automation, and other things, but they will rarely have in-depth knowledge of all of these topics, let alone a few or even a single one.

So for someone who wants to enter or transition to this field, how important is it to specialise in one or two things, instead of trying to master everything?
