Switched to big law- I have no work.

3 months ago, I left my small firm paralegal job to go to a big law firm for the salary increase. It’s been 3 months and I literally have no work to do. I assist with some out of state attorneys (where there’s a 3 hr time difference) and that gives me some work but barely anything. I’m really struggling with commuting an hour to and from every day to basically sit at my desk doing nothing all day. I really like the firm, and my team but they are all inundated with their work and very minimal tasks can be passed to me. At my old firm I did LOTS of drafting, client communication, and document preparation and work for the attorneys I was assigned to. I’m really trying to hold out hope that things are going to pick up for me at my new firm, but it just seems very stagnant. I am always vocal about being willing to assist with anything and anyone, but as someone who likes to keep busy i’m having a really difficult time with it not being reciprocated. Does anyone have any advice from being in a similar situation?

Commuter Rail Ticketing-South Station

Forgive me if this has been asked before- I haven’t taken the commuter rail since 2024 and need to this week. (Usually a daily red line rider) For the ticketing/scanning, are you supposed to activate your ticket on the app when you are scanning it through the fare gates at South Station?

I am getting on the Greenbush line in the AM, do they still going around scanning them on the train? Or do you scan it as you’re getting off at SS?

(Side note I cannot believe how expensive the CR has gotten. It’s $19.75 round trip from where i’m getting on to SS. (Not including station parking!) The Greenbush line was always delayed and slow when I used to take it two years ago. I justify taking the equally terrible red line over the CR because atleast the red line is only $5 round trip)

LEEP in 1 week

I have my LEEP scheduled one week from today. Had a colposcopy a little over a month ago. Everyone told me the colposcopy was not that bad at all, however I had a really strong reaction nearly fainting immediately after the procedure and being in a ton of pain, cramping, and bleeding for about 4-5 days after the procedure. I had it done on a Thursday and got to be off work until the following Monday so I lucked out on the timing there.

However my LEEP is next Monday, i’m at a new job and walking a lot more because of my commute. I’m really apprehensive for the aftermath of the LEEP, can anyone who had a tough time with the colposcopy share their experience/advice for the LEEP recovery process?

I put in for next monday & tuesday off work, but i’m thinking I may need more time and i’m hopeful that my doctor will give me a note for more time off work. Overall extremely nervous about the entire thing.😣

▲ 107 r/paralegal

I’ve been an EP paralegal at a small firm for a year and five months. Firm has a pretty high turnover rate for admin (4 paralegals have left within the time i’ve been there) I work directly for one of the partners and he has been great and invested a lot of time into training me and teaching which I am extremely appreciative of. I received an offer from a bigger firm in town for 35k more a year than what i’m making now. My boyfriend was recently laid off which I did tell my employer about and expressed my anxiety for paying rent etc. I know that when I turn in my notice tomorrow they will be blindsided and shocked. I’ve never expressed being unhappy, however the salary is quite low for the state I live in which of course I am not happy about but $2.50 raise after a year was expected and I wasn’t surprised that it was that low.

I guess i’m looking for advice on how to handle this conversation as I know it’s going to be a shock to them. I feel guilty, and I know I shouldn’t. But it’s easier said than done,is there a specific way I should go about saying that I received a better offer? I highly doubt they will match what I will be making at this bigger firm.
