Latest version always fails to play first song to completion

Weird issue. First song on iOS plays to about 80% and stops. Can’t really be restarted either. Have to skip to the next song and sometimes it’s reluctant to play that one too. After that it seems fine for a while. I opened an issue on git for it.

Paid a visit to an audio store today, and now I'm confused

There's a high-end audio shop about an hour away from home and I happened to be in that area today, so I swung in to see what they had. I'm interested in some new speakers.

I told the sales guy that I was happy with my sound system, just not my garage sale speakers. I was looking for options.

Next thing I know, he's talking about MC vs MM turntable cartridges and demoing an "okay" turntable and speakers to me so he can then dazzle me with five-foot tall Klipsch behemoths and a high-end Denon TT and amp.

Then he picked up a tablet, fired up Roon and points to a gaming PC in the corner and starts talking about filtering and streaming and music shaping and I honestly just sort of tuned out at that point.

Toward the end of the speaker demo, a young father and son walked over to ask a question, and this guy starts the same pitch over with the same demos and the same demonstration songs and I disappeared into the background to peruse their vinyl. Clearly this is his schtick. Just felt kind of used-car-salesmen-esque.

Not sure I'm going to buy anything from the guy BUT ... his streaming setup and whatever filtering system he was running the music through intrigued me. I gather it was Roon but the filtering software was something secondary. Can anyone tell me what that was? I'm trying to google it but I'm not coming up with anything that resembled what he showed me on his ipad.

Buying Mom a turntable and basic system, looking for advice

I got into vinyl last year and since my Dad passed away in January, I’ve taken my Mom out with me as I’ve hit the flea markets looking for records, just to get her out of the house.

She seems to really enjoy flipping through the bins with me, and has some records of her own, but she doesn’t have any kind of sound system right now.

So I’m looking to get her a TT and a basic speaker setup. What would you recommend as a setup for her?

We probably want an automatic TT or at least semi-auto.

Something weird in WSJT-X recently

https://preview.redd.it/sgvwnnw9kedh1.png?width=951&format=png&auto=webp&s=a9a05d5037656f71a332829d71a611d4c5ca8d29

My setup:

  1. WSJT-X v3.0 on Windows 11
  2. Kenwood TS-590SG
  3. Ham Radio Deluxe

See the waterfall here. It's red like that throughout the entire 3khz width of the waterfall on some of the higher bands. When you turn the audio up, you hear nothing like that and the S-meter shows very little movement.

Per instructions I've found elsewhere for digital operation, I have the RF gain at 100%. Beyond that, I'm not doing much else that I can think of that would cause this.

I've been running FT8 with this setup for years now but this just started recently. No idea where to start to troubleshoot this but it DOES NOT seem like actual RFI.

PROBLEM SOLVED !!!!!

Big shoutout to u/hamsterdave for pointing out that Windows audio enhancements had likely been enabled. If you run into this problem, check there:

  • In the start menu type “Control Panel”.
  • Then click: Hardware and Sound > Sound
  • In the window that pops up, click on the Recording tab.
  • Select the audio device for the Kenwood then click “Properties”
  • Click the “Advanced” tab in the properties window.
  • Near the bottom, make sure “Enable Audio Enhancements” is unchecked, if it’s present.
  • Click “Apply”

What is the benefit of signing into the FiiO Music app?

On my FiiO M21, I just noticed the Music app has a "Click to log in" link at the top. I can't seem to find any information on what that enables or what benefit there is to doing so. Can anyone explain?

What is happening when you see a signal do this on FT8?

That really wide signal around 2050 seems to duplicate up and down the 3 kHz space and wipes everything out. What is happening here?

Question about CD ripping

When I rip a CD, my player spins up really loud for the first track or so, then it calms down and gets quieter. What is going on there? If it matters, I'm using EAC and a USB-C ASUS ZenDrive.

I'm really just looking for a simple explanation of the mechanics of reading data off a disc.
