I got this as a birthday present

I got this FiiO DM15 as a birthday present today from my husband. I want to update the firmware, but I have some concerns because I've been reading comments on YouTube that a lot of people had a bad experience updating it. Any tips so I don't brick mine?

Fiio DM15 underwhelming?

Just received the Fiio DM15 cd player today and it's my first CD player in about 30 years, so got the old box of CD's from the attic.... I must admit I am underwhelmed. I am used to my Sennheiser HD660S (first gen) plugged straight into my MacBook pro M1. Sounds good. I know the headphones could do better (with a top dac), but it's good.
Using the same headphones on the Fiio, plugged in the mains, and the sound is just a bit dull, a little muffled, the volume has to go quite hight for a normal levels (76 %). I listen solely to classical music and by no means loud. compared to Apple Music on my MacBook, AM is in a different league. Much more clarity, bass, separation. I'll keep trying some more discs but so far.... :(

Poweramp + M21 Setup Tutorial Needed

Howdy,

Last night, I bought the full version of Poweramp for my M21.

I have been enjoying the interface.

It is more visually appealing than the Fiio media player.

I use primarily use Sennheiser HD 599 SE headphones for playback.

While experimenting with Poweramp last night, I noticed that I had to turn the volume up to 60, just to get it close to level 30 volume on the Fiio media player app. This was alarming.

Could someone please explain why this is?

I do not want to damage my hearing by using faulty settings in Poweramp.

If someone could please recommend a good Poweramp tutorial for newbies, I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

How can I tell if my FiiO K3 is the old version or the New K3 / K3 2021?

Hi everyone,

I bought a refurbished FiiO K3 that was sold/invoiced to me as “FiiO K3 2021 Refurbished.” However, I’m trying to confirm whether the actual unit is really the New K3 / K3 2021, or if it is the original/old K3.

The box and the device itself both only say “K3” / “FiiO K3 Refurbished.”

The barcode on my box is: 6953175710165.

From what I found online, the original K3 may use barcode 6953175710165, while the New K3 / 2021 version may use barcode 6953175710202 (although not 100% sure about this). I also understand that the main internal difference is:

- Old/original K3: AKM AK4452 DAC

- New K3 / K3 2021: ESS ES9038Q2M DAC

The problem is that Windows only shows it as K3, and the label on the device itself only says Model: K3, not “New K3,” “K3 2021,” “ES9038Q2M,” or “AK4452.”

Is there any reliable way to confirm which version I actually have without opening the device?

Can the barcode, authenticity code, firmware revision, USB device ID, or anything in Windows/FiiO control panel prove whether it is the old K3 or the New K3?

I’d appreciate any help!

Fiio BR15

Looking at the BR15 as a dac / pre amp between my pc and some active speakers I have. It seems like a really solid unit and is 299 cdn where I am located. I haven’t seen many reviews but I don’t really need the headphone out the k13 has.

Beyond the wave theory review has anyone had it compared to a Schiit Mimir which is my other option. I’ve liked the Schiit dacs in the past but yeah for the mimir and a pre amp it’s quite a bit more.

Also any feedback using it in Linux as I’m looking to move from win 11.

Back to Basics: How I Stopped Scrolling and Started Listening to Music Again (Snowsky Echo Nano Review)

Over the past year, my relationship with music has changed quite a lot, and DAPs have played a big role in that shift!

At some point, I realised that my phone was literally killing the magic of listening to music, and it was happening subconsciously. Here’s a typical morning: I wake up, go to the kitchen to make myself a coffee, put in my earphones… and before I know it, I’m checking my missed messages or reading the news. That moment of solitude vanishes. The music turns into mundane background noise, a soundtrack to scrolling through my phone.

That was one of the reasons I decided to go back to a standalone player just like I used in the 2000s. I bought the Tempotec Variations V1 and really liked it - convenient and functional. But after a while I understood: it’s still a very modern device. It solves the phone problem, but it doesn’t fully recapture the feeling of mid-2000s MP3 players.

So I was especially curious about the Snowsky Echo Nano. Full disclosure: FiiO sent me this unit for review, but everything below is my own honest experience.

Visually and to the touch, it perfectly captures that very aesthetic of the 2000s. I’m going through a bit of a rough patch at the moment; I’m spending a lot of time at home, and it turns out that holding something like this in my hands, loading it up with my favourite music from back then – Linkin Park, Nirvana, The Rasmus – and completely switching off from the outside world to lose myself in the music is incredibly therapeutic for me

What stands out (Pros)

  • Aesthetics & build: Made with soul. Excellent design and quality materials
  • Tactile feedback: Physical buttons have a fantastic click
  • Performance and sound: A very snappy interface and impressive sound quality for such a tiny device
  • Can be used as a DAC with a PC
  • Resume playback: If you power off mid-track, the player starts in the main menu, but resumes the track from the exact same position when you start playback again

Trade-offs (Cons)

  • Quite awkward to control one-handed.
  • No gapless playback - there are noticeable pauses between tracks.
  • No Bluetooth
  • Battery life is around 5–6 hours (due to the tiny size)

The paradox of the small screen (subjective)

The interface is actually well thought out and pleasant to use, but the tiny display makes navigating a large library painful compared to the Tempotec.

Strangely enough, this “flaw” became one of its biggest strengths for me. The Echo Nano is breaking my habit of constantly skipping tracks. I just load a full album, put it in my pocket, and forget about the device while I lose myself in the music.

Mostly tested with the Snowsky Oak Nano headphones and an exFAT microSD card

Final thoughts

The Snowsky Echo Nano is not a do-everything modern player. If you want streaming, Bluetooth, a big screen and tons of features - look elsewhere.

But if you’re tired of constant information noise and want music to stop being background filler, the Echo Nano delivers a genuinely unique experience.

The most interesting thing is that the Echo Nano hasn’t replaced my Tempotec Variations V1. They simply offer different experiences. While you might want to use the Tempotec as a modern DAP, with all its features, the Echo Nano feels like a time machine - something you slip in your pocket, start your favourite album, and simply disappear into the music.

How to use Echo Mini as a DAC from Macbook

I'm a bit confused as to how to connect my New Fiio Echo to my Macbook to use as a DAC. When connected by USB-C to to the Macbook, there doesn't seem to be any indiction its connected. Its doesn't show up in the mac in midi connections or anything, and toggling between different UAC modes (mobile, computer, normal) doesn't change anything, or produce any sound.

What am I doing wrong? Does anybody have any advice?

[NEWS] Yageo Raises Capacitor Prices, Impacting DAP, DAC and Headphone Amp Makers

FiiO's CEO said today (July 1) that "the situation is really difficult" following Yageo's announcement of a price increase across its capacitor lineup. Yageo is one of the world's largest manufacturers of passive electronic components and a key supplier to FiiO. The concern stems from the fact that capacitors make up a significant portion of the components used in DAPs, DACs, and headphone amplifiers, potentially affecting manufacturers such as HiBy, Cayin, iBasso, and Shanling as well. To make matters worse, many of the same components are also used in artificial intelligence (AI) servers, creating increased competition for component supply. Check out all the details below.

M11 Plus/M11 Plus LTD/M17/M11S/M15S/M23/R7/R9—firmware updates for multiple player models, adding Pod Mode and Cassette Mode!

M11 Plus/M11 Plus LTD/M17/M11S/M15S/M23/R7/R9—firmware updates for multiple player models, adding Pod Mode and Cassette Mode!

This firmware update covers multiple players including the M11 Plus/M11 Plus LTD/M17/M11S/M15S/M23/R7/R9, and introduces two brand-new retro themes: "Pod Mode" and "Cassette Mode," bringing a more ceremonial playback interface to users across different devices. It also adds a system equalizer, Auto EQ, and community sharing features, making it more convenient to fine-tune sound and share audiophile configurations.

Additionally, it optimizes the download speed of the FiiO Market, improves remote control stability and smoothness, and fixes the occasional Bluetooth transmission abnormality. The experience across multiple models is upgraded simultaneously, making daily music listening more stable and seamless.

Note: Since the R7 and R9 are desktop-oriented designs, Pod Mode and Cassette Mode are not added by default. Users who need these features can download and install them from the FiiO Market, or contact customer service for assistance.

It is recommended to connect the player to the internet for an online update. If you prefer a local upgrade, click the links below to download the firmware to your device:

Not really happy with Nest Pod

I recently got the Nest Pod from the FIIO store on AliExpress. And... to be honest, it's quite disappointing. First of all, the case doesn't sit tight no matter what, there is always a gap between the parts on the upper side. Second, the included glass reduces a lot the responsiveness of the screen. At last, not really sure about all the bulk the case adds to this DAP. At the bottom, it looks quite clumsy. I'll stick to this case for now but once the glass loses all of its oleophobic quality, I'll be happy to ditch il altogether.
