2 IKEA rugs = one pouf

Made this floor pouf using 2 IKEA SORTSÖ rugs. If you don’t count the filling, the whole thing came together for about €10.

I stacked the rugs in a cross shape, lined them up evenly, then hand-sewed the edges. The filling is just leftover beads from two old bean bags I had at home, but fabric scraps work too and if you add a zipper, you could even use it as storage for blankets or other soft stuff.

This is actually my second one, the first has been holding up for years.

I sewed the whole thing by hand with a basic sack needle and regular thread (just threaded multiple strands through the needle for extra strength). Took about one full viewing of Mission Impossible 2, so… roughly one Ethan Hunt 😅

The process:

  1. Lay one rug vertically
  2. Lay the second rug horizontally on top to form a cross
  3. Fold and bring up the sides
  4. Sew the edges together by hand, leaving one side open
  5. Fill with bean bag beads, fabric scraps, or soft storage items
  6. Close the final seam or sew in a zipper instead, so you can remove the cover, wash it, or use it for storage
