Midcentury Modern lightweight IKEA Skadis Panel. Now my bathroom looks HIP.

I've been designing these Skadis panels for a bit and wanted to start branching into more midcentury design to match other rooms in my place. The circles were fun and make it feel very 60s/70s to me. You can see that there's half holes on the edges of the panels so that you can have multiple panels next to each other and continue the pattern.

Let me know what you think!

Closed Fjällbo

Was done with all the visual clutter so I picked up some free laminate flooring and cut it to size for the doors. What do you think?

Wardrobe in restricted space

Hi, we're trying to rearrange our daughter's bedroom (primary school age, but hopefully the design/layout will stick for years to come).

We've got an IKEA Slakt under construction and we are left with a tiny space for the wardrobe and wondering what could be done there.

It is 43cm deep and 90cm wide, although widest furniture we would fit would be 80cm, otherwise it would restrict the door opening.

We really want to fit some sort of wardrobe in there and leave the space in fron of door and window for a small desk or chest of drawers.

I was thinking to fit 2 platsa units 60 wide x 42 deep x 120 stacked on each other, with the top section with double doors and a cloth rail, the bottom section would then not have doors (no space to open) and work as boxes storage accessible via the opening between the top of the bed "foot board" (70cm tall), maybe cover that hole with some cloth to tidy it up.

Any other ideas?

Just not sure how well the space directly behind the foot of the bed will be used.

IVAR Catio

I posted this in a Catio subreddit and someone there suggested I post here too. I hope this fits!

I made it for my 2 barn cats that are also companion cats that recently retired to indoor life in the city. The bones are IKEA IVAR with 1” hardware cloth. We cut up pieces of carpet on the smaller side and added IKEA cat accessories on the larger side.

Haven’t completely finished since we don’t have a lock or hinges yet, but is a good size for two cats. And they love it!

IVAR pieces used are in the photos. Total cost wasn’t calculated, but about $250 cdn. It took about a day to put together with two people and hand tools.

LÖVA stem substitutes?

Creating a space for my kid like the first photo (pulled from Google, not mine) and I'm struggling because I bought 3 of the LÖVA in store with them on display this way; how convenient for their staging. However, upon assembly found out my ONLY option is a horrible short stem with a single wretched angle as an option, second picture from the IKEA website. Anyone found a functional & and appealing solution to replacing the stem or being able to position it a little better? Open to conceptual ideas too.

IKEA MALM hack: built-in 200W USB-C charging station with a custom 3D-printed bezel

My boyfriend modified the IKEA MALM chest of drawers and turned it into a bedside charging station.

He cut an opening into the top of the MALM and designed and 3D-printed a custom bezel/mounting frame for the charging unit, so the charger sits neatly and flush with the surface.

The charger is an Anker Prime 200W USB-C charging station with six ports. It has four USB-C ports and two USB-A ports, so we can charge several devices without having chargers and cables spread all over the bedside table.

He also routed the cable through the furniture to keep the setup as tidy as possible.
The main modification was:
- Cutting an opening into the top of the MALM
- Designing and 3D-printing a custom insert/bezel for the charger
- Installing the charging station into the new opening
- Routing the cable through the furniture.

I’m impressed with how clean it turned out!

Has anyone else added built-in charging or other tech to their IKEA furniture?

Hauga dresser that means the world to me for shoe storage

Long story short I very suddenly lost someone that meant the world to me and they brought so much color into my life and I probably wouldn't even actually try to make this apartment as nice, inviting and very much me as I can if it wasn't for them. But I just couldn't find a space for it. Then I realized if I got rid of my bulky shoe shelf and replaced it with this and something small to sit on like an ottoman or something that looks integrated with the dresser I would free up an entire wall for a full body mirror. That was a lot of words to ask what would be the most efficent way to store shoes ins this while keeping the fronts. And also any ideas how to do this to make it look as integrated as possible in a place I rent under these stairs. I can still ise a screw here and there if needed. Ignore the clutter. THe shelf being a clutter-magnet is one of the reasons I'm switching them out.

First hack, very pleased

Wanted a new desk but saw that the normal desk srufaces aren't great for mounted monitors, so I hacked one! I've seen the combo a few times here, working well so far for me.

Ekbacken 246cm cut down to 215cm, three Adils legs (one in the middle), and Alex drawers on one side. The desk isn't secured to the Alex. I just put down one of those nonslip pads you see in dish cabinets sometimes, it basically only moves with effort since it's heavy enough to just sit there.

Billy Bookcase Hack for more book storage

I have an idea for a bookcase hack and I'd love to get some feedback on it.

I live in a small condo, and my daughter and I have a book problem. There's no more wall space available to put an additional bookcase. But I would be willing to give up some space to double the depth of my main bookcase. My basic plan is to create a second row of shelves that would be on rollers so they could be moved aside to reach the shelves that are directly against the wall.

The fixed row of shelves would be made from two standard sized (31.5") Billy Bookcases. The space is a little larger than that (but smaller than that plus one narrow (15.75") bookcase). That's why I have additional shelves between the two that I would make from some sort of hardwood, maybe even incorporating some sort of live edge. The rolling portion would be 4 of the narrow bookcases.

The two layers of shelves would be connected by a t track embedded in the top of the fixed shelves. This would allow the narrow shelves to slide back and forth. One extra challenge is that the ceiling is a bit low due to an air duct. That's what the grey area at the top of the last image represents.

So am I crazy for trying this? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

IKEA skadis 72” workbench setup

I’m currently trying to figure out which orientation would work best for my 72” workbench, but I couldn’t find a perfect fit without cutting the boards. I’m currently looking at one 30x22” in the middle and two 22x22’s on each side. This is probably the best orientation sitting at 74”, so you have a 1” gap on each side. Picture shows 3 30x22” boards which I will be switching out for some black ones instead.

Need advice for IKEA PAX adjustments

Hi! We are planning on getting an IKEA PAX closet for our wardrobe. We would prefer the 236 cm height model due to ceiling height of 260 cm, but there is a box that is running the length of the wall that only has a height of 226 cm from the floor. The box is about 9 cm deep. Would it be possible to cut a notch out of the back of the whole length of the PAX closet at approximately 10x10 cm to accommodate the smaller height at the back? Has anyone done anything similar? The image shows the box we have to deal with.

Is this Nikkeby stacking hack possible?

Has anyone tried stacking these Nikkeby dressers/night stands? I have two single green ones and one double red one (as pictured) and I would like to stack them. Does anyone know if this is at all possible?
Will the legs be able to carry the weight?

Kallax modification

I am looking to modify my kallax to make a bigger shelf. The idea is to remove this separation only. I am running into a bit of a problem because the vertical separator are used for two boxes.

Easiest/best way to do this?

My customized IKEA Kallax 3x2 to be fit for a smaller room

Since I moved to a new house I realized that a 4x2 wouldn't fit in the room. I needed to make a custom Ikea Kallax because my country doesn't sell a 3x2.

Since I already had access to 4x4 and 2x2 I needed to find a solution to make a 3x2. The best way would be to use what I had available and try to see if my idea was possible. So I started cutting the bottom and top off the 4x4 to make it a 3-cube unit instead of 4 units and using 2x2 for the sides to make a 3x2 and drilling two new holes on the right for Ikea screws and covering the sides of the bottom and top with leftover pieces.

I took the remaining pieces from the 4x4 sides plus the inner shelves which were then cut to give extra height and used the leftover wood frames that were available and pressed them in and glued the pieces to the sides of the 2x2 and applied two-part wood filler to make sure the edges were nice and not visible. I first used P40 and later a P120 sandpaper to smooth the entire shelf.

Since this was my first time cutting and making my own version with Ikea furniture I used wall paint all over the furniture which didn't look good so I redid the sandpaper process and applied primer. The remaining scratches I left on the inside as they won't be visible and couldn't fix a nicer texture on the front.

A walnut board will also be placed on top.

Did I do great for a first timer and what would be great advice for next time? This shelf will be used for a video game collection.
