Kushida makes headlines in Brazil after falling victim to the "fruit scam" in São Paulo
Free translation:
Japanese wrestler Yujiro Kushida — a wrestling champion and former WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) performer — was shocked to pay R$ 95 (U$ 18) for just two kiwis at the São Paulo Municipal Market (known as "Mercadão") in the city center during his visit to Brazil.
In a social media post on Monday (10), he questioned whether the price was fair and compared the cost to what he had paid for an all-you-can-eat barbecue dinner the night before. A 500g (1,1lb) tray of kiwis typically costs between R$ 8.99 (U$ 1,75) and R$ 17.99 (U$ 3,50) , depending on the brand and supermarket.
"They charged R$ 95 (3,000 yen) for just two kiwis. I couldn't say no after they let me taste so many things. The price was the same as the all-you-can-eat barbecue dinner I had last night — Brazilians, is this price fair? 😅. I visited the São Paulo Municipal Market, where Inoki-san used to work," he wrote.
Internet users commented to warn him that he had fallen victim to the so-called "fruit scam," which involves pressuring customers into buying fruit at prices far above average.
"The old Mercadão scam," one person wrote. "Unfortunately, they often pull this kind of scam there, especially on tourists," another user reported. "A person can't even eat a kiwi in peace," said another.
In a video produced by the Brazilian Wrestling Federation (BWF), Kushida said he was very happy and expressed a desire to return to Brazil soon.
He then joked again about the price of the kiwis: "I had no idea kiwi was so expensive in Brazil. I have no money left. Goodbye." At the end, Kushida repeated in English: "I love Brazil."

Reeboking WrestleMania 27
WrestleMania 27 was the first WWE PPV I ever watched, and although it was very memorable for me because of that, after so many years I see that it was a disappointment, so I made a card of how it could have been better. Winners in bold.
