no pellicle

hello everyone! listen, i know the pellicle IS NOT the point to the kombucha production, and my drink comes out good and i’m enjoying learning about it. but. it’s been two months of continuous production and my booch simply does not produce pellicle. it ferments fine, pretty fast honestly but i’m in a heatwave so i guess that’s why, it’s fairly fizzy when bottled and i love the taste. but i would really love to understand why it doesn’t form any pellicle.
i’m using black tea and my ratios are:
125gr sugar
250ml starter
2l tea

if anyone has any input it’s much appreciated!

scoby hotel

hello everyone! i was recently gifted by a friend that moved away her scoby hotels. i have never brewed kombucha and i have no clue of what to do to keep them healthy. from my understanding and bland research they look fine, no mold and the smell is acidic. there’s a few bubbles so fermentation is going on. am i supposed to keep the jars closed? what’s the upkeep for the hotels? should i refresh them? help me understand where to start please! thank you all!

▲ 18 r/duck

hello! so, i’ve got runner ducks. one drake and 4 hens. they have a lot of space and one safe place for the night. i have started to see a new dynamic that i don’t like and i don’t really know if i should intervene or not. my drake picked a hen and decided she is not allowed to eat and he doesn’t wait anymore for her to be inside the night pen to enter himself (i make sure she is in as well). she looks fine, she’s not skinnier (that i can tell), she lays everyday and she keeps fighting for food. i don’t think it’s a super urgent problem to solve since she’s somewhat safe but it’s a problem nonetheless. i thought that maybe my ratio m/f is wrong for this particular drake? maybe i need to add a few hens to the flock? or maybe i should separate him for a few days? if anyone has suggestions i will take them! thank you!!
