This rock was picked out of a talus slide/wash off of Boy Scout Rd. near Balmorhea, Texas. Hardness is likely 7+ (scratches glass without rock deformation), but grinds and shapes easily. I believe it to be flow banded Rhyolite. By all means, please feel free to correct me or share more information related to this rock and range because this is the extent of my knowledge. Thank you
I found a nice cobble in the river and slabbed it into some nice pieces. This was my sacrificial slab to try a new idea. I used a core bit to cut a disc out of the slab. This is the final(ish) product.
Here is a rare find for me. I found this dude chilling in a gravel tailings pit at a local sandpit in Russell County, Kansas. I see lots of "honey agates" here, but never really anything with pronounced banding. This is a welcome find to me.
