I saw a theory that Meursault was already a distortion a while ago, and was being contained through some means N Corp. devised. The Chains Of Others EGO and his belt buckle, present on all of his identities and shaped like a chain link, seem to support this. He’s also different in terms of composition.

Building upon this idea, the execution in the book has already happened. It is a total “execution” of Meursault’s entire self-identity and any ambition he may have had.

I am not too familiar with the book, but Meursault does seem to have some clear desires (he wants Marie quite badly)

After Distorting and being “executed” for it, Meursault acts on orders because he has no real agency of his own left.

His extracted LCB EGO is also not his own, but the chains being used to suppress his actual EGO.

Also Marie better be as bad as she is in the book
