SpaceX Losses and Control!!! IPO?

Gark! I won't be investing in the SpaceX IPO.

According to AWST, SpaceX last year had "a $5 billion net loss in 2025 on $18.7 billion in sales."

Elon is the majority shareholder and "controls about 85% of the company ahead of the listing, with 12.3% of Class A shares and 93.6% of Class B shares that are particularly important because it gives him full control over the board which stops him from being ousted."

If you're thinking of investing in the IPO, you might want to dig deeper. That's a bad roller coaster to ride, IMO.

Vote Riders "Paying for Voter ID" charity

My wife and I got our passports renewed this week. She took my name when we were married in 1980. Should some malign persons manage to pass the SAVE act, she didn't want to be caught out. It was over $300 for the two of us.

It caused me to ask, rhetorically, "Who helps the poor with this?" So a quick search led me to Vote Riders, a voter ID assistance group. A bit of checking made me reasonably confident they were legit.

I contributed. Putting up voting roadblocks is un-American. I punched a tiny hole in their wall. Please punch some more.

$1.7 billion--Oops! Mostly needed for administrative expenses?

So the Trump Foundation contributed almost nothing to the little people. What percentage of the Donnie Warbucks Lawfare Fund for Aggrieved Billionaires do you think gets to some Jan. 6^th "Patriots"? 5% 1% 10%?

Do we need a new Dunning-Kreuger word?

We seem to have a surfeit of leaders not thinking actions through.

We have a word for people who jump in where angels fear to tread. We even have a word for their actions, _imprudent._

We don't have (AFAIK) a concise word for their thought processes. Following the current trend of naming things in honor of the current president, I propose the process of following Dunning-Kreuger-like reasoning should be called _Trumpling._

Is this a good word for this?

Potatos (lunch recipe)

This is an adaptation of an online recipe which I can't find. They roasted or boiled the potatos.

Ingredients

  1. 2 3" yellow potatos

  2. 1/4 medium onion

  3. Tin of King Oscar Lemon Mackerel in oil

  4. Salt, pepper, oil, cayenne

Instructions

  1. Slice potatos, adding oil, salt, & pepper

  2. Place in a shallow, covered bowl & microwave until done (195-205°F) about 8 minutes (YMMV)

  3. Slice onion thinly

  4. Drain mackerel into hot skillet (reserve fish)

  5. Fry onions w/ salt & pepper

  6. Add mackerel, breaking up and heating

  7. Switch pan to low

  8. When potatos are done, taste & season if needed

  9. Combine and add cayenne to taste

Very tasty lunch.

I've never been a fan of canned albacore tuna. I find pouched skipjack tuna edible. This time, I tried the Ferrari of tuna. And it's a lot better. More like grilled tuna.

I had it straight, with celery sticks & buttered toast. Recommend if you can spring for the $7.99.

Our weekly No Kings demonstration on a pedestrian bridge over a state highway had its first heckler. He was young and (I thought) sad, needing attention more than political persuasion.

One thing he didn't seem to understand was the nature of the demonstrators. He kept saying things like, "Your side killed Charlie Kirk!" and "Your side tried to assassinate Trump 3 times!" They don't seem to get that the left in America doesn't really have a side.

MAGA is a coherent (focused?) movement. What's left of the Republican party has hooked on for advantage.

The left is at least 3 loosely affiliated groups that vote mostly Democrat*. Some people are sad for the Kirk family. Some bemoan the incompetence of Trump's would-be assassins. No one agrees on all issues. None of the assassins seemed to be all there, mentally.

His heckling fell on deaf ears. No one responded. He was young enough to be some of our grandchildren. After our hour was over, we were discussing the bald eagle that flew over us**. The sad young man tried to become friendly and discuss the eagle, but no one engaged him. (Possibly a poor choice, but...[shrug].)

One thing that encourages me is the narrowness of MAGA. They don't seem to understand a diverse consensus with roughly shared values. They seem to need a tight focus. Trump gave them that, but I don't see it lasting. If the Republic survives, we'll have several years just cleaning up the mess MAGA is leaving.

*"I'm not a member of an organized political party. I'm a Democrat."--Will Rogers (1932?)

**The pedestrian bridge is between a marsh and a river. Eagles are common-ish.

The bird feeders in Bristol, ME are next to where my wife parks her car. The birds pretty much ignore you unless you make a sudden move. I had a shorter than usual lens, but I was so close, it didn't matter. Birds: Nuthatch, Pine Siskin, Chipping Sparrow, Chickadee, photographer.
