Tree Swallow - Central Alberta, Canada
Peacock (Nikon Z6ii + Nikkor Z 400mm f4.5)
Indigo and Painted Buntings!
I had to travel to Ft. Worth area for work this week so I took a morning off and hiked around LLELA Nature Preserve. I have way too many photos but these are my highlights.
Indigo Bunting — this guy was up in the trees for a while but he finally came down and let me get a good shot of him.
Painted Bunting — these birds are so incredible. He stayed high in the tree till he flew away, so the image isn't as close/high quality as I wanted but still worth sharing I think.
My work
I started bird photography just over a month ago now and these are my best pictures so far. For some reason, I just can’t grow on Instagram. Support on my instagram page would mean a lot to me 🙏

Some of my favorites from the last few months
All were taken with a Canon 80D and EF 100-400L II. Bird IDs:
- Tree swallows in the depths of a heated argument
- Black crowned night heron attempting to become a Mobius heron
- Pair of accurately named yellow-bellied sapsuckers
- Canada goose being subtle
- The incredibly inaccurately named least sandpiper (they are obviously the best sandpiper)
- Hard to tell for certain, but likely an American tree sparrow. Also an American kestrel.
- American white
rhinocerospelican - Osprey summoning the wrath of nature to strike fear into the heart of all earthly fishes
- Pileated woodpecker, taken aback by a brief flash of sunlight in an Albertan winter
- Black-necked stilt experiencing an infinite snoot glitch
- Rough-legged hawk...legs appear to be the same smoothness as any other hawk legs
- Juvenile bald eagle that was definitely not a baby golden eagle who was adopted/chicknapped by a pair of bald eagles who ensure it that it is just "growing into its plumage"
- Snowy owl, the only owl kind enough to be awake during normal business hours
- Great horned owl, reinforcing the previous comment
- American Kestrel, wondering why he didn't bring her back any of that sparrow to share
Western Wood Pewee
You never know what’s going to come while waiting for something else. Waiting for Summer Tanagers, this little tyrant flycatcher came and posed for a minute.

Beginner birding - Fish Creek, Calgary, Canada
Still lots to learn in terms of technique, composition and editing. Working with a Sony A7Cii and cheapo Tamron 70-300. Wife has ok'd getting something with longer focal length but I want to suppress the GAS for as long as possible 😅
