Hey everyone, I wanted to make this post in case any of you out there felt similarly to me. I got into script writing (but this applies to the VAs too) because I'd begun following a handful of creators that did asmr rp content. Along with following those creators, I joined discords of their communities, and I'm grateful for all the kind folks I've met there. Additionally, I love how supportive everyone on this sub is.

However, what comes with any community of individuals with the same interests comes the invasive ideas of inferiority or imposter syndrome. You may look around and feel like people don't praise your work as much as they do others, or that you simply aren't as good as they are.

I began writing scripts because I adored the idea of my favorite VA filling one someday. That hasn't happened, and it may never happen. But that's okay, because I've had the heart-warming, tear-jerking support of so many kind-hearted people. My scripts have been filled by a number of people with fewer than one-thousand subscribers, and I wouldn't trade any single one of those for a fill by my favorite VA. Because these people enjoyed my work enough to take the time to bring it to life. It doesn't matter if somebody else can write better than me, because these people like my work. How it compares to any other work doesn't matter

The same principle goes for the VAs out there that fill scripts. Don't look at the numbers and say, "I only have so-and-so subscribers, and I only get like so-and-so comments on my videos". Think about the fact that those people love your work enough that they want to keep up with the stuff you do, and they love your work enough to tell you! Even if you have 50 subscribers, imagine that many people in a single room, buzzing to hear about your next audio.

We need to remember that none of this is a competition. Social media can feel like such a rat race, especially when visibility of reddit posts is sorted by upvotes/downvotes. I know that whenever I post a script, I'm glued to my phone waiting for the upvote number to go up and I'm itching to see comments on it. But comparison really is the theft of joy.

To cultivate a greater sense of appreciation, I think we should all take a moment to share the love and tell each other how much we appreciate those that support us. I'll start:

This is a bit of a longer one (it’s meant to be listened to while someone is trying to sleep), but I think it should be chill to record. There’s no sound effects, and it’s basically a dramatic reading of a story. I encourage you to take liberty in how you read the story. It’s hard for me to write dialogue that’s basically in the form of fictional prose, so I leave it to your ability to hammer out anything that feels too mechanical to be part of an orally spoken story.

Scene: It’s been a long day, and you’ve winded down for the night, but you can’t help but just lay there staring at the ceiling. Your partner seems to notice, and tries to help by telling you a quaint little story.
