Scared of hitting a weight-loss limit

Hi all;

I've been on MJ since the beginning of February 2026. I started Mounjaro at 245 lbs (technically, a month before that I was at 251 lbs, but I think some was Christmas weight). I'm on 7.5 mg now at down to 209 lbs.

I'm sticking around 300 calories below my TDEE. I'm still seeing average weight loss about 2 lbs a week. I walk daily and am about to start a weightlifting regime to regain lost muscle. Things are going well. It's been a life-changer -- I have more energy, I think more clearly. I told my wife I feel about 10-15 years younger.

That said, I'm a bit nervous. I've been told MJ will usually cause me to lose about 20% of my original body weight -- which would mean about 50 pounds, which I'm getting closer to. That still keeps my BMI in the obese category (I'm 5'5'').

I realize everyone's different -- but I'm curious about whether anyone has lost more than the 20% range. I'm not in a hurry. I'm 47 and would love to be down to between 150-160 lbs by the time I hit 50. Any recommendations from those who have lose weight?

The lowest I've weighed in at least 17 years

Weighed myself this morning and I was down 30 pounds, to 215 lbs. I still have a long way to go (I'm 5'5'' and my goal is to be closer to 145, although I'll settle for 160). But it was a big moment. When I started dating my wife in 2009, I weighed 215 pounds. I told her she's never known me at under that weight -- that every time I lose weight now, it's going to be a side of me she hasn't seen before.

To be honest, I can't remember when I weighed less than 215 lbs. It is at least 17 years, but it could be as much as 20 or 25. My oldest kid is 14; he's never known me at a healthy weight (I'm not at a healthy weight yet, but I'm getting there). This week, I was in a Zoom call for work and caught myself in the screen and, for a second, I didn't recognize myself. There's still a lot of work to be done, but this felt like a big moment.

I've been on MJ for 12 weeks; tonight I will be taking my first dose of 7.5mg. Friday, I went to my doctor for a 3-month check-up. When I last had my appointment in January, my A1C had jumped from 6.4 to 8.1, which triggered a T2D diagnosis and my doc put me on Mounjaro.

Three months later, I am down 19 pounds and one pant size. But the biggest victory is my A1C is now 5.4! I feel great and side effects have been minimal. I'm a little nervous about moving to 7.5 but the appetite suppression has started wearing off early in the week and my weight has plateaud, so we think it is time.

Also, a tad nervous that my insurance will see my lower A1C and kick me off the meds. Anyone have experience with that?
