Support Needing Map Support

I've been playing this game as a way to connect with family. It's far outside my wheelhouse of games. Usually I play solo games that require little expertise or skill in order to have a good time.

My family members have way more experience and are trying to help me learn to play the game better. In particular, I get advised frequently to use my map so I know what's happening on the field. I've gone so far as to make the map opaque and place it in the dead center of my screen- but that doesn't seem to help with effectively using it. I'm finding I can either pay attention to the map or to what I'm doing with my character. When I focus on character gameplay, I'm only able to understand what's in front of my character, like tunnel vision. This can make the game difficult for my teammates as I have no clue what's happening outside my field of view. This is usually a bigger deal for my character as I'm playing a support (which I've been told is my best so far).

I'm looking for advice on how to use the map and improve my game awareness. How often should I look at the map? How do I balance the dual visual input of gameplay and using my map on top of the directions and plays my teammates call out? What should I be training my eyes to look at and my brain to pay attention to? The overwhelm is real out here.

For additional context- I have somewhere between 100 and 200 hours in the game at this point. My skill level is probably as good as it's gonna get since I don't play religiously. I'm just hoping some nice people might have some advice on how to expand my bandwidth for all the input I can't seem to juggle so my friends are able to have more fun. Sorry for the ramble and thanks for any advice!
