Unicorn/rare bottles

How do you guys go about cracking open once in a lifetime bourbon finds. Especially if you found them at MSRP or exceptionally close and aren’t willing to pay crazy secondary prices. Are they for special occasions openings only?

I'm a Newby to this and I’ve been out looking for bourbons all morning at the chain stores. Even saw a few trucks leaving after making drops, but when I look or ask workers Im always coming up short. What am I not doing right? I might add that I live in Bradenton Florida

I placed an order through Grubhub for a bottle of Elmer T. Lee that I found for $72.35. The order was accepted but when the delivery driver showed up with a bottle of cheap tequila I was pissed. I immediately contacted Grubhub and got a full refund. I don’t drink tequila so I took it back to the store. Owner happened to be there and I’m telling him my situation. Turns out the morning employee (new person) gave the wrong bottle to the my Grubhub driver and they sold the ETL. He offered me a pick from his bourbon and I could buy it for the price I was buying the other bottle. Ended up walking out of there with a bottle of Colonel Taylor Barrel Proof for $77.
