LVN/LPN SNF HELP
I’m a new grad LVN who recently got a job at a SNF. I’ve never done healthcare jobs before and I feel so clueless and lost. Nursing school definitely does not teach you all the work you do as a nurse.
The other day I was on my 3rd day of orientation and the nurse on shift had me do med pass alone. She was there for support obviously but she would be away from the cart a lot of the times. Anyways, the morning med pass took roughly 4 hours from start to finish. I’m glad she let me do the med pass on my own because I got a practical look at how much I’ll be handling on my own.
However, It was incredibly stressful and overwhelming. She told me I was doing a good job but I felt so slow and I didn’t think I was doing a good job at all. Charting and med pass took up most of my shift. Our facility does not have a wound care nurse, RT, admission nurse or anything like that so everything is the floor nurse’s responsibility. I just don’t know how I’ll be able to complete med pass, get all treatments and wound care, admissions, any additional orders, and charting done for roughly 32 residents - especially if med pass takes up most of my time. Did anyone else experience this (especially such a long med pass) and do you guys have any tips or tricks to managing time?
Please help!!
