New Ability: First Impuse

New Ability: First Impuse

Idea/concept: everybody knows that person who does things without thinking, whether it’s a stupid stunt, a bad bet, a terrible investment, or rushing to fight while unprepared off of impulse. These  pokemon are impulsive rushing into a fight due to anger, arrogance, or foolishness, forget to take a second and consider their strategy.

Ability effect: Pokemon forgets their held item for a turn, held item effect is ignored for first turn on the field and on the first turn after switch.

Interactions:

Choice items - the effects of choice items will be ignored once per switch in, meaning you can select a move without being locked in, until the following turn, this also means you won’t receive the boost from the choice item. after the first turn on the field (meaning both the first turn of the game and the first turn after switching in) the items effect will return, being locked in to one move and also receiving the item effect.

Assault vest: items effects are ignored the first turn on the field , you can use a non attacking move for the first turn in the field, item effect reactivates the following turn.

Berries: item will not activate until even if conditions for activation are met the first turn on the field, if activation condition is still active (and Pokemon is alive + has item still) berry will be consumed.

Healing items (leftovers, black sludge, shell bell) - items effect will be ignored for the first turn on the field, in the case of black sludge item damage (provided it’s not a poison type) will also be ignored.

Toxic/flame orb - item will not status Pokemon for the first turn on the field.

Focus slash - item will not work the first turn, you can die in one hit while holding focus slash until the following turn.

Mega stones/ items that work like mega stones: ability does not work on these items, you can still mega evolve on the first turn.

Effect on meta: item essentially allows the user to phase a turn of restriction or benefit of an item and do something they couldn’t normally do while holding the item. These users also hide their items and its  effects for a turn

Infernape: with access to numerous setup moves including nasty plot and agility, infernape can run specs/scarf with a setup and become a sweeper. Infernape still struggles with poor bulk, and is walled by bulky ground/fire types, still being one shot by most ground types or a strong water attacker. Not having its item effect active during the first turn might be detrimental. I’d say it rises to RU and maybe gets banned.

Primeape: poor base stat total, poor bulk and middling speed, and lacking access to setup moves that could be valuable combined with a band/ scarf primeape does not make very good use of this ability. Remains in ZU.

Bisharp: the current evolite set is strong and it is completely outclassed by its evolution. I can see a niche set with a swords dance choice band/ or just a regular choice band set. Remains in RU

Granbull: generally a shitry pokemon suffering from gen 2 syndrome, it does learn bulk up and has serviceable Hp. I can see a niche AV bulk up set that can make it a decent damage sponge as well as attacker. Hard to see it making it out of ZU, maybe a ban if it’s lucky.

Zangoose: honestly one of the better users, decent stats all around with attack and speed standing out, with access to both agility and swords dance it can run either band or scarf to become a fast strong attacker, rises to NU and maybe gets banned.

This ability might fit better on other Pokemon, any recommendations drop them on the comments and as to why it might work. If I missed the mark on my analysis let me know as well.

Edit: yes granbull does not fit, it used to be one of my favorite mons and I’ve been trying to make an ability it fits with to no avail. I had the picture ready on canva so I just slapped it on here. Don’t worry about it too much 😂

Edit edit: thanks for the praise everyone, didn’t think this ability would interest so many people, and yes I spelt “impulse” wrong three different times, I apologize 😭

The Great Tera Blast Ban: OU family who managed to profit during the Great Tera Blast Ban.

For those who don’t know this is a picture of the Kennedy family during the Great Depression, who using insider trading and investing heavily into the whiskey and gin markets (which actually grew during the Great Depression) made a fortune.

Idea/Concept: there are people who have an insatiable need to be the center of attention no matter what, they show off their talents, lie, cheat, or even put themselves in danger to remain as the center of attention. These Pokemon chase the spotlight even to their detriment.

Intent: create an ability that partially mimics the effects of taunt as well as rage powder/ follow me.

Ability effect: Once per switch‑in, while this Pokémon is on the field, opposing Pokémon cannot use moves moves that do not target the Pokémon. All single‑target moves used by opposing Pokémon are redirected to this Pokémon. Moves that target multiple Pokémon hit normally.

Rules:

While this Pokémon is on the field (once per switch‑in):
1. Opponents cannot use non‑targeted status moves.
Hazards (Stealth Rock, Spikes, Toxic Spikes, Sticky Web)

Screens (Reflect, Light Screen, Aurora Veil)

Weather/Terrain

Trick Room / Tailwind

Heal Bell / Aromatherapy

Coaching, Safeguard, etc.

2. Opponents must choose a move that targets a Pokémon.
Self‑buffs (Swords Dance, Calm Mind, Dragon Dance) are blocked

Field moves are blocked

Team‑wide moves are blocked

Targeted buffs/debuffs (Swagger, Screech, etc.) are allowed

Status moves (will o wisp, toxic, thunder wave, leech seed, etc) are allowed

3. All single‑target moves used by opponents are redirected to this Pokémon.
This includes:
Single‑target attacks

Single‑target status moves

Random‑target moves (Outrage, Thrash, Petal Dance, Raging Fury, Uproar, Struggle)

4. Spread moves hit normally.
Rock Slide

Heat Wave

Surf

Earthquake

Snarl

5. The effect ends when this Pokémon switches out.
It reactivates the next time it switches in.

Competitive usage:(I’ll do both singles and doubles)

Singles: the redirect portion of the ability is useless in singles, however the ability does serve as a partial taunt upon switch in. Hazard setters or setup attackers can be shutdown for one turn, however due to the switching portion of the ability, an opponent can predict and punish a switch in or might be able to setup or throw hazards anyway the turn after if not prepared.
More of the Pokemon with access to this ability will be able to use it in singles than compared to doubles since you don’t have to worry about two potential attacks, and you handle one setup or hazard setter at a time.

Doubles: would definitely be much stronger in this format, you essentially block an attack for your partner every other turn if you wish through switching, though taking those attacks without defensives will not be easy.
Its ability to shut down setup attackers and certain utility moves will make it a great ability, not oppressive as opponents still have plenty of options to beat it and you essentially have a working ability once a turn.
In doubles bulker Pokemon with good defensive profiles/immunities will be able to make the most of this ability.

Effect on meta;
Meowscada: already an excellent lead Pokemon but often helpless against hazard leads or resistant set up Pokemon, Meowscada can now shut down these Pokemon from turn one and immediately make value with its stab Knock off’s, I expect Meowscada to firmly reach OU, its speed tier and consistent damage guarantee’s progress against other leads and as buffer against other setup attackers or hazard setters, with access to u turn and its good speed tier, it can act as a fast pivot to bring in more defensive mons or setters to take advantage.

Primarina: it’s incredible bulk and typing make it a strong offensive and defensive Pokemon, with access to both taunt and encore, primarina can shut down hazard setters and setup attackers, utilizing its bulk to shrug of attacks while setting up on its own. On the defensive side, primarina’s access to recovery moves such as draining Kiss, aqua ring, and rest(a big plus for this ability) primarina can repeatedly switch in and out, this is especially useful for double being able to absorb attacks, recover and potentially switch again, due to the switching. I expect primarina to remain in OU but with a new style of play, with flip turn it can act as a slow pivot to
safely bring in a teammate to take advantage.

Bravialry Hisuian: Honestly a mid Mon due to its low speed and bulk, with an ok hp and spa stat, and sheer force as a powerful offensive ability. I’d imagine it would remain PU if not maybe get banned and be PUBL. It can quickly deal good damage to leads who are now without their utility moves, but would likely struggle later into the game without any bulk and its low speed.

Mr rime/ Mr mime: both struggle even in ZU to their fragility and low offensive pressure. Both Pokemon have access to taunt and set up moves but due to how frail they are are likely to get beat quickly by opposing attackers. Will likely both remain in ZU, and have no use in doubles.

There might be some technical aspects I missed when making this ability, feel free to let me know in comments,
