Loving the process of game making, but I can't design! Any tips?
As the title says, I've been working this month on a card game just as a hobby. I made and printed an awful looking prototype but it was actually quite fun to play.
I'm now tweaking the mechanics based on play testing but also trying to redesign the cards. This is my weak spot. I can't design at all. Basic drawing or art is just a complete mystery to me.
Any tips for someone who loves creating the mechanics and rules to a game, but sucks at the art? I know it's not the most important thing at this point but after playing it with bad art it's really annoying to not see the images that are in my head lol.
Or are there designers/creative people out here who would happily partner up on a project like this on a hobby basis? Of course if the game turns out great I would like to try and crowdfund/market it, but for now I work full time and I'm just doing it as a hobby.
Game context: it's a 1v1 duelling card game where two armoured characters sling spells at each other to tear down their opponents armour and eventually their life points. Spells are based on a few basic elements that follow different themes. Players pay for spells by charging magic from different parts of their armour, then using those to cast the spells.
