Planning to finally pick up Shadows. What’s the honest verdict?

Yo guys i would love to hear your take, so Shadows is currently on sale and I’m heavily tempted to grab it, but the insane amount of hate online is making me hesitate. Is the hate genuine or is the internet just riding the usual Ubisoft hate wave?

For context, I’m a long-time AC fan. I absolutely loved Origins and Odyssey so much. Valhalla was fine as an RPG game, but it was just way too massive and I never felt like it was actually an Assassin’s Creed game, you know? Obviously, I’ve played Ghost of Tsushima too and it's a masterpiece, but not everything has to be that perfect to be fun imo.

I had the same hesitation with Mirage because of the backlash, but I bought it on sale and honestly liked it. Yeah, the story was mid and the combat was pretty bad Ik, but the DLC was good and I loved that it went back to old-school stealth, patience, and actual planning instead of that massive Valhalla grind.

I’ve been waiting for a Feudal Japan AC game forever. For anyone actually playing, is it honestly worth it? Does the gameplay loop hold up? but to be completely honest, I’m just looking for people to motivate me to get it. I am literally dried out from reading all the negative things online. Like, please tell me something positive about the game for onceeee! Is it really that bad? It can't be that bad right?!😭

Cheers for the honest takes!
