First time sleeping in an hostel. Someone opened my curtain and woke me up because i was snoring?

Hey,

First time solo traveling in Denmark and I’ve never slept in an hostel before. I’ve slept in an hostel yesterday night in Copenhagen after not sleeping at all for almost 24h. I slept good. Everything was fine.

I moved to Aarhus today to get closer to a workshop I’m following in 2 days.

I fell asleep and it’s in an hostel with like 48 booths by floor. Each booths has a privacy curtain. I had trouble falling asleep because of jetlag. I ended up falling askance and after 30 minutes, I woke up. Someone was over my bed and had opened my curtain. I had earplugs and before i took them out he just walked away.
My neighbour was also up. Sitting on his bed. When the guy left I asked him what had happened and he told me he didn’t know. He left shortly after.

When he came back I asked him again what happened and he told me that the guy came to tell me to stop to snore. I asked him if my snoring was annoying him and he said no. Meanwhile there’s another guy snoring loudly in the same aisle.

I’m surprised. I didn’t know I was a snorer, maybe it’s the position I was sleeping in. I don’t know. I’m also kind of not confortable knowing someone came up and woke me up/invaded my privacy by opening the curtain.

What would you do in this situation?
I’m somewhat scared to fall asleep knowing someone might be annoyed by me. Is snoring uncommon too?
Also, any tips to atleast calm down my snoring if it happens again?

Thanks for the reply.

Update: It happened at around 3-4 am. I did speak to the person at the reception and he was very apologetic. He told me to come back at the reception at 11 am in the morning and that he had written a note on my reservation. They offered me a private room for tonight.

Mid-July : Aarhus to Copenhagen - Track maintenance?

Greetings,

I'll be visiting your country in two weeks, and I'll be heading to the central Denmark region from the 4th until the 15th.

I've managed to secure my train ticket from Copenhagen to Aarhus for the 4th of July. Afterwards, on the 6th, I'll be heading to Ringkøbing until the 15th of July. I was planning to head back to Aarhus on the 15th to go back to Copenhagen for my last days in your country. (I'll be staying in Copenhagen until the 19th).

I was going to buy my ticket for the 15th of July. I was going to head back to Copenhagen (From Aarhus).

I did notice that there seems to be some maintenance scheduled on the tracks between Aarhus and Copenhagen, so it won't be a direct way to Copenhagen, and I'll have to take one train from Aarhus, 1 replacement bus, and another train to arrive in Copenhagen.

I had two questions :

  1. Can I still buy an orange ticket, and will it work for the whole trip? (With both trains and the replacement bus?)
  2. Is there a better/more efficient way to travel back from Aarhus to Copenhagen?

I checked Rejsplanen, and the price indicates around 457 dkk. DSB indicates 99 dkk for the trip.
I'm really lost on how to proceed with my trip back.

Thank you very much for your help/support!

Copenhagen : Which area is better to stay for 4 days - Frederiksberg vs Nørrebro

Greetings,

I'm an emerging Canadian theatre artist visiting Denmark for a theatre workshop in about two weeks. I'll be landing solo at the beginning of July before heading to the Midtjylland region for 12 days. After the workshop, I'm planning to come back to Copenhagen for 4 days of sightseeing before flying back home. Since I found out pretty late that I was accepted, I'm rushing to finalize my lodging this week. Plus, it's my first time traveling solo, so all this planning is very new to me!

I already booked a hostel near the central station, for my first night so I can easily catch my train the next morning. However, I’m still trying to figure out where to stay for those last 4 days.

Initially, I was looking at affordable hostels like Steel House or Next House. The price and the reviews are great and I’d love the chance to socialize, but my workshop involves 50 people over 9 days, so I’m worried I’ll be too drained to share a room with a bunch of strangers afterward. I know, a bit of a contradiction!

Also, initially, I didn't think about checking Airbnb. Back home, Airbnb is heavily criticized due to illegal rentals worsening the housing crisis, so I initially avoided it. Is it a similar issue in Copenhagen? I'd really prefer not to support that kind of market.

If that isn't the case here, I found two affordable options that cost about the same as 4 nights in a hostel. Both are rooms inside actual apartments where people live, so I feel a bit better about it:

  1. Near Nuuks Plads St.(around Nørrebro)
  2. Near Flintholm Station (on the border of Frederiksberg and Vanløse)

Both would definitely be quieter than a hostel, but I’m curious about two things:

  1. Is Airbnb generally frowned upon in Denmark?
  2. If it is, I’ll look for another alternative.
  3. Which of these areas do local residents usually prefer or recommend for my vibe?
  4. I want to see the main tourist sights early on, but I'd love to spend my last couple of days experiencing a more local vibe.
  5. Any other areas worth staying (Vesterbro?)

For context, I’m an emerging theatre artist. I love craft breweries, cultural activities, chatting with other artists, writing, spending time outdoors, and finding good food, brunch, and coffee. Given my profile, which spot do you think fits best?

Also, if you have any local recommendations for activities, microbreweries, or restaurants, please share! I’ve already heard great things about communal dining and grabbing a drink at a local bodega to chat with residents.

Thanks a lot!

TL;DR: First-time solo traveler looking for the best spot to crash. Help me pick my tourist ''flavor'' : Nørrebro or Frederiksberg?

Visiting Copenhagen for 4 days ! Any brunch, microbreweries, bodega, restaurants to suggest?

Hello !

I’m a Canadian in my early 30s visiting Copenhagen, solo, for 4 days in mid-July. I want to dive into the local food and bar scene, try authentic local dishes, and I'm looking for your best recommendations!

Here is what I’m hunting for:

  • Microbreweries & Bodegas: I’m a huge craft beer fan and will pop into every microbrewery I pass by. I’d also love to find a younger, local bodega where it's easy to socialize.
  • Coffee & Pastries: I keep hearing how incredible the bakery and coffee scene is here, so I'll definitely be stopping for pastries and good coffee daily.
  • Brunch: I basically live for brunch back home, so finding a great spot is a must.
  • Restaurants: I want to find 1 or 2 hidden gems with amazing food at a reasonable price. I also want to treat myself to one accessible "fine dining" experience with a set menu/tasting menu, without the crazy high-end price tag. I'm also interested in any restaurants with local food/specialties/must tries.
  • Communal Dining: Is communal dining actually worth it for a solo traveler in their early 30s looking to meet people?

Since I'm visiting in mid-July, I want to start planning/booking places soon. I've heard that booking culture is huge in Copenhagen. How far in advance do people usually need to reserve for mid-range restaurants and affordable fine dining set menus?

If you have any favorite local spots, please share!

Thanks a lot!

Artistic / Theatre scene in Aarhus? + Question related to transport/bus

Hello everyone,

I hope you're doing well!

I'm an emerging theatre artist from Canada, and I was recently accepted into a theatre workshop/artistic residency in Denmark this July, which I'm incredibly excited about. I'll be spending a few days in Aarhus at the beginning of July before heading to the residency in another town.

I'd love to know if any interesting theatre/art events are happening in Aarhus during that time. I'm also very interested in discovering the local artistic scene, especially places like cafés, bars, or cultural spaces where artists tend to gather, so I'm open to any suggestions!

I'm also a big fan of craft beer and microbreweries, so any local recommendations would be great!

I also have a transportation question. I'll be taking bus 124 from Aarhus Rutebilstation to Ringkøbing (via Silkeborg and Herning).

As a foreigner, I'm having trouble understanding how the ticket system works. From my research, I understand that fares are based on zones. My trip is from zone 301 to zone 450, which I believe is about 20 zones.

However, I'm confused because the Rejsebillet app shows a price of 248 DKK for this 20-zone trip, while Midttrafik's website seems to suggest that 20 zones costs closer to 100 DKK. I've also seen different estimates online ranging from about 100–200 DKK for similar trips, so I'm not sure what the correct fare actually is, and how to properly purchase the right ticket and use it on the bus.

Because of that, I'm unsure what I should actually pay, or how the system works in practice. Can I just pay on the bus, do I need to buy a ticket in advance, or should I rely on the app price?

Any clarification would be really appreciated.

Thank you very much for your help!

Visiting in July ! - Where is the artistic/theatre community?

Greetings from Canada!

I’m an emerging theatre artist and I was recently accepted into a theatre workshop/artistic residency in Denmark this July, which I’m incredibly excited about!

I’ll be arriving in Copenhagen first and spending a day or two there before heading to the residency, and then I’ll be coming back to the city for a little while before returning home to Canada.

I’m definitely planning to visit some tourist spots, but I’d also really love to discover more of the local theatre/artistic scene while I’m there. Are there any neighbourhoods, cafés, bars, venues, or cultural spaces where theatre and artistic communities tend to gather?

I’d also be happy to hear about any places, events, or recommendations you think could be interesting for someone coming from a theatre background.

Bonus question : Bonus question: as a big fan of craft beer and microbreweries, what is your favourite local microbrewery? (Your top single recommendation).

Thanks a lot, really looking forward to visiting your city! (And sorry if this is a bit of a niche question!)

Any professionals that attended Odin Teatret’s Odin Week/Odin Home in Holstebro

Greetings!

I had submitted an application back in March for Odin Home/Odin Week happening at the Odin Teatret in June. In April, I was told that I was on the waiting list. This morning, I received an email saying that, due to some cancellations, a spot had opened up for me to participate.

I’m super excited because back in 2020, when I was still in acting school, my class was planning to do a masterclass there, but then COVID happened.

I was curious to know if any Redditors in this community have participated in Odin Week in past years. I’d love to hear more about your experience!

Thanks!
