Help! Refrigerator coolant leak?

My 26-year old Kenmore fridge seems to be emitting an overwhelming smell of rotting fruit. No, there’s no rotting fruit or dead mice or moldy drains in the kitchen. The smell went away for a couple of days right before the appliance guy arrived, of course. He cleaned the drip pan and vacuumed underneath, but the next morning, the smell is back. I asked about a coolant leak but he said the fridge temps are fine and did not want to mess with the closed coolant system. So. Does this sound like a coolant leak? Is it worth fixing, and if not, what is the most reliable brand of fridge? I would want the stupidest fridge possible, no high tech screens, not even a water dispenser.
