Los Angeles Vs. New York City

HELP! I (20F) need help deciding on which city to live for the next four years. I’m extremely fortunate to have the ability to decide between (arguably) the best cities in the country and not have money as an issue. I’ve made a million pros and cons lists but just can’t decide; so im turning to strangers on the internet lol

I’m originally from NC and have never even traveled let alone moved states and I want to just start my life over.

Im moving for university and my top choices in both states are on complete equal standing so it’s difficult to decide based solely on education.

LA- Hollywood/film industry is a big plus as I plan to hopefully work in/ be involved in the industry. Amazing year round weather. BUT with full transparency I’m a seriously terrible driver and I’m worried about how spread out/car dependent/traffic dense the city is .. I don’t know if it’s something I could eventually get used to or not.

NYC- THE city. Wins in walkability/public transit (ESP since nightlife is a big factor for me) and travel opportunities to Europe/canada/other major U.S. cities -
The only real downside I can think of is .. the cold. I struggle already a lot with seasonal depression absolutely HATE the cold/ any temperature under 50 F is my nightmare and it’s the main reason for not immediately choosing New York.

I’ll only have one real opportunity to make such a big move without worrying about affordability so the decision is very important to me. Despite the cons I think I’m leaning towards California for the weather but I’m not 100% sure and would greatly appreciate any insight anybody has.

How’s your experience living in both/either places? Do the pros justify the cons? Is the cold in NYC that bad? Is LAs traffic a deal breaker for you?

I hope this post can help others too so TYSM in advance for your reply!!!

EDIT: for those asking about which schools: I would be starting out at a two year(Guttman Community college or Pasadena city college) and transferring to either NYU or UCLA. My backups would be City College of NY/San Diego State. I’m in love with both campuses, both obviously are great schools with strong programs and connections, comparable acceptance rates etc.. but I’m leaning UCLA
