Over cutting crown facets.

Hi. Need help yet again. The first set of facets on the crown side normally set your girdle width. I have on many occasions cut my girdle to nothing. Not ideal. The best advice I assume is to cut slower look more and give myself more room in the girdle. Better to have a fat girdle than none at all im assuming. Ill be working on that. BUT. If a cutter does over cut that first set crown facet making the girdle look like a knife blade. How do you " fix" that? I have just recut the girdle facets. Am currently doing so now. But I worry that will bite me eventually. Could mess up my pavilion meets. Also just any advice on how to fix over cutting mistakes would be helpful. Thanks guys.

Polishing question

Am I over thinking this? Are my facets not flat or at the correct angle or is the a common issue and is this the correct way to resolve this

Gem cut studio, applying what I've learned.

I'm my last post i may have been vague on what I'm trying to accomplish and specially what feed back im looking for. Taking everything I read into consideration here is a simple square cut. My goal it to pin point what a " good" design looks like and what factors weigh in on that. I tried to limit windows and head shadow. Limited number of facets. Limited index changes and tried to accomplish good tilt performance. Ill go back later and try to round out the angles to whole numbers for ease of use on other machines. I tried to make it able to be set into a peice with little difficulties but I'm still ignorant of how that particular trade operates ( learning that tonight)

Gem cut studio "Son-Shine" design

After discussing the program and what people who know what they are doing actually look for I am trying out some simple designs working on their optimization and sharing them with the community. Not only for feedback but if any one actually likes them or thinks they are good they can try cutting them for themselves. Enjoy the pretty animation this program lets me make. and if you have any criticisms of the design or its performance, please let me know. I tried to include all the information in the pictures, but this is designed for CZ or something with a high RI.

Cutting Pairs.

is there a cutting process that allows you to replicate exact sizes or is it just a measure twice cut once situation? I tried making a pair of simple small squares and one was noticeably smaller than the other unfortunately. it was the first time I had tried. any tips?

Charging and using a Batt lap.

I have tried to charge and use a batt lap with 60k Dimond stick ( dia stick I think) again not really a lot of info online on how to do it properly. I have seen videos of other armatures like me charge a disc and use copper. I tried myself with little to no results(it does not polish the facets I tried it on.) and don't want to ruin my 300$ lap. Any advice would be helpful

How do I use the cheater on an ultra-tech V5?

I have little understanding about this, and it seems that most people use this to help during the polishing step or after the transfer or if a stone comes off the dop. Honestly it's very hard for me to grasp. I understand turning it left or right moves the index gear very slightly left to right. every time I have tried to use this technique it provides no results, as in I can see no difference in where the lap touches the stone at all. there are no instructional videos on YouTube that I can find, if you know of one that actually shows me how to use it and not just explains what it's for please let me know. I have Tom Herbst book and am reading though them, I do not have access to a club or anyone who facets near me at all. I do plan on taking classes but traveling out of state and paying for classes is a luxury I can't afford working a full-time job right now.

If i could just get a consistent polishing technique to work i would be so happy. My current issue is trying to get the facet to polish evenly. You would think all points of the surface would touch.but they don't. How do I fix this? When my polish isent scratchy and actually works I get this. If I let it barely touch the lap only the tip of the triangle polishes. I can move the depth gage to try and touch the bottom but on the amethyst I just cut that caused secondary " facet ghosts" I was very unhappy with. This is topaz. I use mainly lighting laps and metal toppers polishing with an aluminum oxide ultra lap film toper on top of an aluminum master lap.
