Feeding a disabled Monarch

Reposting cuz the last vid I shared had an obnoxious burp sound effect (not me) meant for family.

Just thought I’d share. It’s actually not too hard to do, just gotta be super careful.

Crumpled wings. Could be anything from OE or poor diet as a caterpillar since they can get aggressive competing for food even with lots around.

Not sure what to do yet. It may have OE so I’m keeping it isolated and washing my hands after handling it. I also dispose of everything in contact with bleach. It has a ton of energy but it’ll never fly. I tried to macro photo the scales but didn’t work - can’t see jack. Don’t have a microscope. Just seems very healthy aside from wings.

Some say freeze them to sleep, some say release them and let nature take its course. But it can have OE and part of nature in releasing it includes starving to death. Hard call for me honestly. Let’s not debate but feel free to share your stories.

For now it has a big enclosure with flowers, sun, and nectar water. I work from home so caring for it isn’t a big deal.

We will see.

Torn between new used or repair

I have a 2010 Prius 4 needing engine work. Possible head gasket issue. 180k miles. $3600 just to open up engine. Possibly $1500 more depending on what they find. Toyota dealership.

Shopped around, all similar costs. Some less But Toyota has best warranty and they’ve really taken care of me in the last. I am not going to eBay a JDM and self repair. Just don’t have time for that.

I’m torn between paying this or just buying another similar car up to 2016. Prob can be had for 16k at most. Reason being it’s all I can afford plus insurance jumps up significantly for anything more recent.

Anyone have any experience in this or advise on how to proceed? I’ve done weeks of research and pro/con lists. Stuck in the middle. Thanks in advance. Appreciate it!

Damaged pupa made it!

A while ago, I shared a post of a chrysalis I found at the bottom of a large enclosure when I was cleaning it out. The chrysalis was dirty and dented but I decided to tie her up and hope for the best.

Today she eclosed and is beautiful. I am still hoping for the best (hopefully not any bad unforeseen deformities) and will soon release her to the world.

Sharing incase anyone finds a damaged pupal case… don’t be too quick to give up. But know they don’t all make it unfortunately and try not to be broken hearted about it.

Is this pupa done for 😢

Cleaned an enclosure and found this on the ground. Thinii look Ng of glueing it to a string and seeing if it’s ok. Worth it or no?

Feel bad for the little guy. But I know it’s nature and they don’t all make it.

Been still for like 15 hrs by now. Not eating. If I zoom in, there is slight movement. More like a wiggle.

About 1” maybe slightly more. Leaves were fresh but have dried up. I’m leaving for now because I don’t want to disturb them.

Not a pro cat breeder/raiser. I did care for one and released it as a butterfly. I have 2 pupas currently. These 3 cats just happened to hatch on a milkweed plant I bought as food for the previous gen and I’m trying to help them to full term. Thanks in advance.

I try to do minimal interaction. I mean, what I’ve done already may be too much: enclose for safe and bring indoors as it’s been very windy recently.

Anyways, I let this guy pick his own place but seems to be too close to a corner. You think little guys ok for shouldn’t move when hardened?

Btw that other cat was harassing the guy in J before pupating. Had to move the cat to the branch. Strange aggressive behavior.
