Why I bought the Prius V

I have two dogs, one with pretty bad anxiety. Even though good things always happened, he was deathly afraid of his seat belt harness. Plus, it's much safer for your dog to be in a crate in a vehicle than a seat belt.

We have a 2016 Highlander and I purchased this brand crates for it. The boys have a great amount of ventilation and I know they're safe when we travel. So I went looking for what other cars I could put them in. The Prius V was the only non-SUV! I am a small car person, not to mention I want that fuel economy.

I got my 2016 Prius V Five a few weeks ago. I got the windows tinted to help keep the car cool, bought the crates, and then ordered fans. We just did our first event (in the midst of this awful heat wave no less) and the boys were comfortable. The fans are remote controlled and plug into the 12V in the back. I also can use a splitter to plug them into a DeWalt battery when the car is off.

I am keeping this car until Toyota announces they will bring the V back!!!

Why are there three different Exact Fit filters?

The expensive one has activated charcoal, is it worth it? What’s the difference between the other two? OEM or aftermarket? Bosch makes a HEPA, K&N a washable reusable. Or a $4 filter from Aliexpress?

Prius won’t start

Hi, I have a 2007 Prius with about 168k miles on it. Yesterday at a stoplight all the diagnostic lights came on including the triangle of death and the car died. It wouldn’t enter ready mode again. I got it pushed off the road and tried to jump it but I’m fairly car illiterate and I was in the 100 degree heat with my kiddo so I was kind of in a rush, so I very well could have not done it right, I wasn’t 100% where to hook up to in a Prius and it was 4th of July so I know the people I asked for help were in a hurry. I got it into diagnostic mode this morning and it does look like the 12 volt battery is reading 11.6 volts, which the internet is making sound like it could be the problem. Is the battery the likely culprit and a new battery should fix the situation? Thanks!

Edit: should also mention I haven’t noticed any other problems, odd sounds or loss performance. It was a surprise despite the age

Edit 2: Thanks for the advice everyone! I’m in a new apartment and just learned there is a advanced auto parts in pushing distance so it sounds like the smart move it get the codes checked there

Edit 3: pushed it to autozone got the battery checked which came back normal and they got no engine codes to show up. I have a mechanic coming to look at it and hopefully I’ll have a better idea that what no codes can give

Edit 4: It was the 12 volt battery, I guess autozone had a pretty garbage reader idk but it’s replaced all the warning lights went away and it’s running normally, thanks for all the advice!

Struggling with front windshield wiper replacements...

This feels like such a dumb post but I've spent so much time looking up options without a lot of clarity on what will actually fit other than OEM. Any input appreciated!

2017 Gen 4 Prius 2. Front wipers are 28in and 16in.

I've always just gotten OEM wiper blades but I haven't found them to work super well and want to get something better.

Read thru a bunch of posts and people there are lots of recommendations for Bosch Icon and PIAA brand and to get a silicone blade.

I ordered these even though Amazon said they didn't fit bc I had read they should come with an adapter. They didn't. I looked for where I could buy they adapter, can't find it, so I'm sending them back.

Thinking about trying these PIAA blades. Amazon also says they don't fit but they come with multiple adapters and in the picture, one of them looks like a push button adapter (which is what my car needs). I checked PIAA's website but didn't find a compatibility list there.

Can anyone confirm if that PIAA set should fit? Or does anyone have a link to something they would recommend instead?

Where to source brake booster parts for 2014 Prius?

From despair to hope, I think I may be able to fix the brake booster myself. Watched a few videos, it looks manageable. I'll give myself a whole day. I swapped out my battery packs last year following videos and everything went swimmingly.

But I don't know where to buy parts for the best price. I know every dealer is different, but this is quite the chunk of change. I'll call those in my area, but what dealerships with online stores would be worth looking for right now?

Thanks again!

Edit: Is there a tutorial for which part I should actually choose? I'm seeing multiple exact fits for the master cylinder with different part numbers.

Is this a healthy startup?

2010 Prius with 200k miles. Just wanted to know if this startup was normal or not. There aren't any lights on the dash except a tire pressure light. Car runs well and isn't leaking any coolant or oil. Sometimes after keeping it sitting for a while I will notice a slight clunk when i start it but it immediately goes away. Any and all insight is helpful.

I’m on a 7000 mile road trip in a Prius and loving it

3 people with camping gear from Nevada to the Arctic Circle in Alaska and back. It’s my friend’s 2012 Prius (185k miles) and it has been great. Not a single issue with the car and this is a punishing route with the frost heaves, dirt roads, and potholes of Arctic roads. 46.7 mpg average so far. I’m used to driving my truck camper on long trips so the fuel cost is amazing.

Came Out The Store to Find A Fellow Prius =3

As I was walking into the Meijer door I heard the normal UFO sound when in hybrid/ev mode pass me. Whipped my head around so quick because the sound is so recognizable. Saw the blue one, but they hadn't parked next to me yet. Came back out the store to find them next to me!!! Made me happy.

I'm a gen5 nightshade awd. I'm visiting Michigan for holiday, but whoever you were, hope you are having a great 4th!

PS: Also a bird pooped on my left headlight and kinda ruined the pic but i hadnt noticed until making this post ;-;

PS2: I parked really close to the line(not over/on) because i was initially trying to keep distance with the car on the other side of me. IM SORRY IF THAT INCONVENIENCED YOU!

Another Prius to the family

It took my mom a weekend to decide she wanted a Prius after borrowing mine. Meet her new to her 2010 Prius 2 with leather and 205k miles. It was a one owner which felt rare. I bought it at auction for $2,400.

We got an oil change on it right away as we were far from home. The oil shop said the oil smelled like gas but since the oil change is still new I don’t smell it. I did an obd read and no codes.

We are monitoring the consumption of gas and first fill actual 223 miles with 96 miles left. I do think a 12v battery will be needed as I noticed the date on it was 12/2018. Yikes!

Other than that my mom loves the car! I added a photo of the motor because that’s what sold me! Looked so clean.

Need help “check hybrid system”

2010 prius. Ive been chasing a coolant overheating light going uphill for more than a minute+. Ive replaced the entire ice coolant system. Headgasket is fine I block tested it. Eventually i realized my inverter pump is completely dead. Yesterday i replaced it. (Aisin) Had to remove the entire inverter to do so. Everything put back together but now my prius is completely bricked. It wont go into ready. I get 4 codes on my scanner P0A40, P0A41, P0A4C, P0A4C. Orange safety plug is in aswell as the inverter cover plug. Aswell as the main inverter wire harness ive seated it multiple times. Im already about 13 hours into trouble shooting this ive taken the entire thing apart and put back together multiple times already. One thing I did notice is to the right of the inverter my car has no ground like the instructional video from nutsandbolts youtube video. But at the same time this car was running before I attempted this job. Any help would be great.

Need a trickle charger recommendation

The 12v died and i can't get it to jump start. Can you recommend a trickle charger to let it charge overnight? The battery was new but i went away and just didn't drive the car at all for a few months.

I have another house that i live at so this car was neglected. Nobody drove it around.

Hoping to get my brother in law to join team Prius (Gen 2 161k miles with hybrid battery replaced in 2023)

Hello Prius legends, this Prius (gen 2, 2006, 161k miles) has a well documented maintenance history, and It's on sale for 4600 dollars. Should I go for it or steer clear? Anything I should take into consideration when test driving?

2014. Brakes went soft while driving. Lights on dash. How to screen repairmen

my fear has come to pass

2014 210k miles

while driving the brakes went soft and lights lit up. I read a comment that hearing the clicking noise meant the abs would fail. here we are.

i got a number for a guy on Facebook weeks ago in anticipation of this. but I don’t know the process. what do I need to buy? what equipment do I need to make sure he has?

I’m in Atlanta. Our normal family mechanic doesn’t touch hybrids. The hybrid shops are very far away and I’m not sure if I can do this myself.

any help is appreciated!

Edit: I turned the ac back on and now everything is fine. Grippy brakes again. Super strange. Could the battery possible to blame? is there anything else I should consider?

edit2: arrived home. Turned off ac. Lights did not return.
