Did my mechanic lie to me? (2026 Prius PHEV cooling)
2026 Black Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid XSE
I've had my Prius for about 13 months now. I was watching a YouTube video about the fact that the Prius has a fan with a filter under the rear seat that needs to be cleaned. I checked under my rear seat and was surprised I didn't find it, I then learned that plug-in hybrids use a liquid cooling system for their battery instead of the fan.
A few months later (about 2 days ago) I went in for the 20,000 mile maintenance check and the mechanic wanted to charge me $181 to clean the hybrid fan. I declined the charge and told them that it's a plug-in hybrid so it's liquid cooled.
He said to me that " your car still has the fan but it doesn't have the filter" he said I don't need to do it now but they want to clean it later. That doesn't make any sense to me lol if there is a fan somewhere, where is it and where is the air blowing out?
I'm pretty sure I just caught him in a lie and he couldn't admit it but maybe there is something I'm missing, does the plug-in hybrid system have a fan of some sort somewhere else that needs to be cleaned regularly?
