Dealing with guilt after you start treating yourself?

Hi everyone, I don’t post often but here we go.

I’m a 24M making good money in tech, I’ve been working for like 2 years now. I live with my parents, almost zero expenses except what I spend on going out , use the 13 year old car we have (I adore it). So almost all of my monthly income goes into investments and I’ve amassed a good sum.

However, even though my parents are fairly upper middle class and they never tried to make me feel poor I still feel guilt whenever I treat myself and buy something expensive. I am obviously very responsible with money and I don’t have any major expenses coming up.

So yesterday I bought myself two designer clothes on a whim and I do agree it was an impulse buy but I really liked how sophisticated I looked in them. Plus I recently got promoted so I justified that it was a gift to myself? I did go very over budget than what I normally buy I agree but all in all the purchase would not even exceed 20% of my monthly income. But i still do feel weirdly guilty in the sense I could’ve saved that money and not spent it on this.

[General Question] A game of countries

Hi everyone,

I have come to a point where I have to decide to go to a US university for spring MSCS like USC or northeastern or maybe try for another country. I’m a SDE with 2 years of experience in a CS mid tier company.

Is it still worth it to take a 100k USD debt, deal with all immigration issues and go to unis like above or should I bite the pill and look at other countries like the UK or maybe Germany for summer intakes?

Hey guys, I recently received an admit from uc riverside ms in computer engineering for fall 26. I received rejects from all other unis I applied to like gatech mscs ucsd mscs etc

I’m deciding if going to the program is worth it compared to reapplying in spring (I cannot wait until next fall). The big issue would be that very few good unis have spring intakes for mscs and the whole internship timeline issue would be present for cpt as I’m international.

Below is my profile:
2 years experience as sde at an American corpo
9.36 gpa from tier 3 college
322 GRE (168Q,154V)
TOEFL 110+
4 papers in vision and 2 patents in iot

I was devastated about this cycle but the ucr admit saved me. Should I be leaving my current job and going ahead with ucr and is it worth it for the future job prospects as an sde? I also have an admit for northeastern mscs but I would prefer ucr ms ce over it.

Are there any major issues with ucr which would not be present in spring?

Hi everyone!

I know I’m super late but I just saw that ms cen applications are open until June 1st and wanted to apply to the program. I’m an intl student and below is my profile:

BTech cse from an Indian tier 3 uni (9.36/10 gpa)
4 papers in vision and ai related stuff
2 patents in internet of things domain
2 years of work experience as sde
1 year of internships
Multiple national hackathon and competition wins

I had applied to colleges like UCSD mscs and gatech mscs but got rejected from them all, I had lost all hope for this intake until I came across this program

Do I have a realistic chance of getting an admit after applying so late? And should I mention ece research or cs research as my goals when writing my sop as it seems to be a combined degree.

I also heard I can take cs courses primarily even if it’s a ce degree. Also if I apply this late does anyone have any idea when can I expect an admit or will it even arrive in time for me to book visa slots and make preparations?

I presume the employment opportunities as an swe would be similar to a mscs degree since my profile is very cs heavy and I would ideally take cs courses too

Any response would be really appreciated!

I have an admit from neu mscs with 23% scholarship,
Should I be going for it despite the high number of visa rejections it has? I’m worried about it since I also applied to Georgia tech and uiuc and got rejected from both, which the visa officer might ask about. I have a 9+ gpa and 2 years of work experience so should I reapply next fall or go ahead with northeastern?

Hey everyone, after receiving a rejection from UIUC for this fall I appealed my decision in a span of 4 days. I gave reasoning along the lines that my sop was subpar and I sent them an updated one since my profile qualifies for MCs I feel. When can I expect a decision from them does anyone know any timeline or the chances my appeal might be accepted.
