The Heir 家业 EP 9-10 discussion post

EP 1-4 // EP 5-6 // EP 7 -8

I was interested in the lacquer soot ink amd Longxiang so I did some read up on them and added something a bit about them in this post

Episode 9

https://preview.redd.it/rwttw67rtd2h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c8e03e9d5aefc0d4b7de9e429f8b454d2ee13821

Li zhen is already planning her future and how she will earn money from making lamp blacks and now yeye is angry 😂

https://preview.redd.it/82bnwu0utd2h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d23fa4e8b69153125cb4d942798d487294150c9

I knew he was going to get mad at some point and I'm happy it happened early so as for them to clear it up and move on. The truth is although finding your path and sticking to it is important, she needs to earn money and will need to rely on her skills for that. As long as she is able to control herself and be moderate in what she does, then there shouldn't be any problem.

I remember someone saying that Yihousheng might belong to Luo Wenqian... guess you were right about that

Luo Wenqian is smart enough to start off as a rich business man/pawn shop owner and work his way into the ink making business. He hasn't visited since he was little (although no one even recognized him whike he was younger) and no one knows what he looks like after growing up so it's easy for him to remain undercover.

Off topic but then I just remembered that this drama mostly used live recording (with a little bit of dubbing) during filming and it shows from the way han dongjun sounds

I thought he came back solely for revenge but looks like he also came back to raise military supplies... and has to leave after 6 months

How long does it take for every tribute ink competition? I doubt it is a yearly competition

From Luo Wenqian to Qi Jiu... I'm still going to stick with his old name btw because I don't like the way his new name sounds

I love how they just give us quick recaps of their lives.

The once goofy young master is gone and we are left with a man filled with anger and driven by revenge...

Can't wait for li zhen and luo wenqian to meet again at the banquet prepared for them by Yan daren

Yan daren is a man that goes straight to the point... I like that

https://preview.redd.it/3v8j7536ud2h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=009357237287a6b1128faa6dad6c7e7ae267f320

Luo wenqian eyes has been throwing daggers at tian benchang throughout the banquet 😭

https://preview.redd.it/xk3uc1v8ud2h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6fd79bd6cdf943f31245a7869c0fd743127cfdf2

The Lacquer Soot Ink became the crown jewel of the "Four Treasures of the Study." Unlike common pine or wood-based inks, it yields an ultra-dark, glossy, water-resistant finish. It was reserved for imperial courts and master painters because it captured unmatched depth and never blurred on raw paper. The phrase "紫气东来" (Zǐqì Dōnglái) originates from the 2,500-year-old legend of Laozi, the founder of Taoism. As Laozi traveled west toward the Hangu Pass, a guard spotted a massive cloud of purple mist rising in the east. This auspicious omen signaled the arrival of a great sage, who then paused to write the foundational text Tao Te Ching. In Chinese culture, "Purple Qi" has since symbolized divine wisdom, nobility, and good fortune. When the highest-grade lacquer soot ink is heavily concentrated, it looks jet black. However, when diluted with water, a master-tier batch reveals a subtle, shimmering purplish-blue undertone. Because of this, artists compared the emergence of this purple sheen on paper to Laozi’s divine purple mist.

Fun fact is Yang Zi (杨紫) and Han Dongjun's (韩东君) name characters came be found in “紫气东来”

As they expected, Yan daren extended an invitation to li jinshui for him to try to recreate the ancient lacquer soot ink

https://preview.redd.it/94fgo4cyud2h1.jpg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b0b4e33fe06321cdf3f7f2793ea430cefac12821

LUO WENQIAN DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS LI ZHEN ALL ALONG?? I thought he knew it was her but I guess I was wrong

I'm curious on what would have happened if li zhen wasn't present or if she didn't learn how to make ink for 3 years. Would li jinshui have been forced to make the ink? If he doesn't agree to it then he might be killed and the whole Li family would have faced another disaster. But then we all know how that li jinshui takes his oath very seriously but he also wouldn't want the Li family to face another series of troubles again because I doubt they would be able to survive it

https://preview.redd.it/b0gv2470vd2h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=553a47ca996abd1ef083341c81c9b7e574fd098b

Their first proper conversation together and li zhen is already calling him and his tactics out 😂

Tian family are really something else. They won't even let others have a fair chance at trying to develop the lacquer soot ink. They can only win with underhanded methods anyways so I'm not even shocked.

He's back to his own home but this time as a guest

Episode 10

https://preview.redd.it/it08pln3vd2h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ce649e11083728b57fba99be99f4342a1e787969

Luo Wenqian is just going after both father and son without mercy 😭 they definitely should have figured out that something was wrong at this point

“your family's grievances will be redressed, and their deaths will be avenged” Tian laoye doesn't realize he's talking about himself 😂 no wonder luo wenqian is laughing happily 😂😂

Li zhen will now be working in the Li family's ink workshop to develop the lacquer soot ink. I think it's a good thing for her because she needs a better environment to work in with tools and materials to use which cost a lot

https://preview.redd.it/kw0nima9vd2h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f6e79bca9a6b26d7cb01c44791a41cdc79f19d00

Longxiang Ink represents the absolute pinnacle of ancient Chinese royal luxury. Reserved strictly for emperors and court scholars, this legendary ink was prized not just for its deep black color, but for its captivating, aristocratic scent. Unlike standard inks that used plain water as a binder, the original Tang Dynasty recipe required an extraordinary botanical ingredient: fresh lotus flower juice. It was used to neutralize the harsh, burnt smell of raw carbon and also balance the heavy scents of aromatics added like musk, borneol and real gold foil. It became such a status symbol that court nobles would even shave off slivers of the ink to drink as emergency medicine.

This Uncle is looking shady with the way he's stopping their aunt from getting the lacquer and even volunteering to help them send it to her home👀

I called it that he was behaving suspiciously. He sold most of their lacquer to the tian family without permission and gave li zhen a diluted version. If she had truly used that lacquer the I double she would have been able to succeed making the ink

These old men always piss me off with how they look down on others especially women. It's like they've forgotten that if that incident didn't happen then li zhen will be one of their hea

Sun baiyi is so shameless. He couldn't recognize good lampblack but is quick to run his mouth. I'm proud of li zhen for shutting him up

The many rules they have in the Li family inkshop is giving me headaches. Poor li zhen has to do a mini exercise running back and forth to get the note correctly

Raw lacquer sap is highly toxic. The Chinese lacquer tree (Toxicodendron vernicifluum) belongs to the exact same plant genus as poison ivy, poison oak, and poison sumac. Exposure to it triggers a severe allergic reaction, resulting in intense itching, painful red swelling, hives, and fluid-filled blisters. In worst case scenarios when inhaled, it can blister the lungs internally causing severe respiratory distress

https://preview.redd.it/tjpzv8xivd2h1.jpg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a624728477844f8f5d9a2d58e225e775640cb982

This scene of her working hard to get the correct recipe really reminds me of luo wensong

That is the book given to her by luo wensong that night right? I remembered him and got this scene 🥹 I see it him helping her indirectly

Luo wenqian is out visiting the Li family. He did say he was going to assess all the ink making families to know who to ally with so I'm looking forward to his interactions with them

The Heir 家业 EP 7-8 discussion post

EP 1-4// EP 5-6

I'm back again and today's episodes was so good and now it makes me excited for the next episodes 😃

Episode 7

https://preview.redd.it/fmfaf8nno52h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=169a3cf53f61bf19c3cb67d20ca50c9d7df5a0a7

I’m over here stressing for him to leave but he’s still more concerned about the ink. He really has an ink madness… at least he finally succeeded in making the ink after so long but it got destroyed…

Luo Wensong is not going to let his ink fall into the wrong hands and is in “burn it all” mode. I feel sad though because he spent so much time and effort to develop the ink only for him to destroy everything

That is the book Wenqian bought for him and now he gives it to Li Zhen for safe keeping fate...

I’m so happy Li Zhen and Tian Benchang saw each other. At least now she’s seeing the kind of person he’s becoming

Is Benchang crazy???? Why would he want to set them on fire when they can easily break down the gate or climb the walls to get in.

Wenqian has arrived and even Li Zhen is watching from afar. Guys I’m so scared thinking he will lose his life here

TIAN BENCHANG OH MY GODDDDD. Why can’t he just shut his mouth instead of escalating the whole thing. Wensong already agreed to go with them but Benchang just had to be insufferable about it.

It’s official… I hate tian benchang… did you see that evil smirk on his face?

https://preview.redd.it/axby27m9q52h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=81c3e3b861312d8940532ce804c02125252ae97c

I’m so happy li zhen got to witness everything and see how twisted he has become

And they meet bandits on the way… Luo wenqian almost losing his life because of the ink li zhen gave him years ago

New character introduced

Tian Benchang justifying his mass murder because to him they are all the same and deserve to die is just twisted thinking. I don’t want to think a person can change so much like that so I really believe this side of him was never new. His circumstances just brought out the side of him that no one (maybe even himself) knew about.

That slap was so satisfying. Wish she would have slapped him a little more...

I knew the talk luo wensong and li zhen had after the pine appraisal really stirred up something in her and it’s nice to see her admit it to her grandfather. Luo wensong was a man that was really obsessed and dedicated to ink making. That kind of obsession for something you do is rare, beautiful but can also be scary

https://preview.redd.it/irddgmuuq52h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d64ec0a0e20097c33b2e306d3789945c72f5f493

Love how Li Jinshui is able to communicate with her, open her understanding and let her know that she has to find her own way. It is not something that is easy to achieve. There would be questions, doubts and so many other things she would have to face but all those are what she needs to grow, find herself and her answer

3 years time skip...

https://preview.redd.it/0vk92x5oq52h1.jpg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ff51b13ddb9e0862ad0b55667b7a5620f61927f6

3 solid years of li zhen learning how to make ink has passed and she finally got it 😭😭 she didn't just make any ink but the rarest superior grade lampblack.

She spent 3 years to get here and now she is finally a qualified ink making master “Li ink legacy has a worthy successor” HECK YEAHHHHH and we are proud of her ❤️‍🩹

Things just get worse for the Li family that they can't even afford to pay workers or even their monthly allowance for their family members, while the Tian family are enjoying fame, splendor and wealth.

Looks like 3rd uncle's ink making skills haven't gotten better in 3 years LOL

I wonder what li zhen wants to go to the Li family to earn money. Will they even allow her to work for them? Anyways I'm looking forward to her showing her ink making skills for everyone to see and shock her 3rd uncle and 4th aunt

Episode 8

My same thoughts...

Love seeing them doubt her and then get shocked that she can actually pull it off... but isn't 30 lamps too much 🤨

https://preview.redd.it/x9ttcxqir52h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9253c426e0e916cad7e90c14f9f2b839052e6f24

I've been waiting for Hua'er because she didn't look like a native Chinese plus her red hair which is not common in historical Cdramas.

Her grandfather won't give her any pointers because he's mad at her impulsiveness 😅

Li Jinshui finally came around and gave her useful advice. She just needs to calm down, clear her mind and free herself from any distractions

https://preview.redd.it/lntia7v2s52h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=98154a32d49ef145494c16ece8f77dce9a8680f3

Luo Wenqian is back and he has changed so much that I can't believe he was so silly, goofy and all smiles 2 episodes ago

Sun Baiyi and all his minions can't even differentiate between good and bad ink tsk tsk tsk

I love how Li Zhen thinks. If they won't accept her ink then she'll go and sell it elsewhere

Their first meeting after 13 years

I love this money struggle between Luo Wenqian and Tian Benchang

https://preview.redd.it/hubq9bwvp52h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f444000d1d42e90956e5474f894624204ffd4c41

That slap was so satisfying. Many more people in this drama need it tbh

https://preview.redd.it/a5w8fd88p52h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4307e28f57d40d6bd531a71a8708316cb95b72d3

15 taels of GOLD?? Luo Wenqian is loaded LOADED 💰. Even 15 taels of silver is already too much but gold? That's another level of wealth.

I knew they were going to throw tantrums after li zhen's public bidding. Even the Tian family joined in the accusations.

It's li zhen's time to shine and prove herself and she's doing it publicly for everyone to see.

https://preview.redd.it/1wgprnyps52h1.jpg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ff6fde2a80ac27a59eba1610a00aa9ca7fcd02d5

I thought making inkblacks was supposed to take days but she did it there for everyone to see? She makes it and while some are happy and proud of her achievements, some are fuming and angry that a little girl can achieve such results

Excited to witness Li Zhen's ink making journey and I'm looking forward to Luo Wenqian's revenge

The Heir 家业 EP 5-6 discussions

EP 1-4

I'm back again 🤠 but before I start today's episodes I wanted to talk about the act done by Li Jinshui in episode 3 where he used an heavy ink stick to break his tooth and make a vow. I saw some talking about it in the comment section and I also became interested and decided to do some mini readings and thoughts on it

While knocking out a tooth wasn't a standard historical practice, the scriptwriters modeled this scene directly on very real, historically documented acts of self-mutilation used to seal vows like severing a finger to make an oath (a very common real-world practice among martial artists, rebels, and secret societies to prove absolute loyalty or regret)

The conversation where luo wenqian losing his baby tooth tells luo wensong: "This tooth should be given to the Grandmaster (祖师爷) to inspect" already sets the logic and narrative for future reference. By establishing that baby teeth are symbolically offered to the grandmaster, the act of an adult knocking out a permanent tooth takes on massive weight. A baby tooth grows back; an adult's tooth does not. By forcibly extracting it and nailing it in the ancestral hall, Li jinshui is offering an irreversible piece of himself to the Grandmaster to prove his absolute resolve to exit the trade forever.

His choice of weapon here is thematic, not just practical. He doesn't use a hammer or a rock; he uses a heavy ink stick. The ink is his life's work, his family's pride, and the very thing that brought ruin upon them in the past and also presently (during the marriage). Using the symbol of his craft to physically break his own body is a deeply poetic, tragic metaphor. The "ink" itself is what violently severs his connection to the "ink trade." So, rather than being an actual tradition you would read about in history books, it is a highly specific, culturally grounded narrative device created by the writers.

hope you guys like this 😄

Episode 5

As expected, Li Zhen's grandfather did not agree to teacher her how to make ink. Her mum also got angry at her which is not surprising because ink making cost her family so much and

Li zhen doesn't give up and decides to dress up as a guy to learn from different family ink shops. I thought she would have gone back to take up the offer from Luo Wensong but it seems like she didn't consider it.

It didn't take long for her to get caught multiple times and get thrown out until the Luo family Steward decided to hand her over to the Literature Association

https://preview.redd.it/7sw2xwyt6z1h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4cfe4b3cf7d953065eaba1c8e29c47c116658301

"Disgrace to the Li family" did 3rd uncle forget how he always told them that they aren't part of the family? Or did he forget the big spectacle and commotion he and 4th sis inlaw caused outside the Li family when all they wanted to do was to pay their respects outside the mansion 🙄

I thought the rule of women not joining the ink industry was actually a written rule but it's just a word of mouth passed down (by men definitely)

Why is marriage ALWAYS the reason why women can't join/participate in many professions or activities. If it was in the modern world then it wouldn't be a problem because getting married doesn't mean you have to completely surrender everything to your husband's family including your trade secrets or in this case the ink making secrets

https://preview.redd.it/432oj3bx6z1h1.jpg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b72a74df54735d7c892f669e4956175bb040650f

Scared for Luo wenqian right now 😅

https://preview.redd.it/bpujstj37z1h1.jpg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f5ec31e5de0e212876242a2be7da45caa2c3ed0c

https://preview.redd.it/j973g2j87z1h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3d9d9ba3259876c59a3cc6aea59f5718785fab33

https://preview.redd.it/hfxcv2j87z1h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e6f956681d1d7989f3c7a55f5425d8cd46e3b88a

Luo Wensong has officially become one of my favorite characters in this drama. Seeing him speak facts, shut them up and stand up for her made me so happy. He doesn't care about gender but talent. He is one of the few that is obsessed and loves ink making so much that he can't bear to see her talent go to waste

I noticed that whenever we get an up close of Wensong's hands there is always ink in the insides of his fingers.

Chen Third Master seems like another character that I would like and it seems he is close with Li Zhen's grandfather

I wonder how Li Zhen's first ink stick will turn out

https://preview.redd.it/1kicx45c7z1h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ee8e05be26443447b5d9a4f5b66539e49e11b0d5

I thought she knew about the marriage 😐 and what's with the wife and concubines because I thought Benchang said that his last 2 wives died

Tian family dad is such a scumbag gosh. Blaming his wife for the way their children all grew up without looking at himself and realizing they took after him

https://preview.redd.it/ng4yjtme7z1h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=446abab9d4ba9b4e99d359576f252fd636d54e3f

D-Day is here and I'm actually happy they didn't go through the route of her making a top quality ink stick. She lacks experience, has never made an ink stick before and hasn't neared ink making for the past 10 years. She might be talented but she needs guidance and experience to be able to produce good ink

https://preview.redd.it/ks8hireh7z1h1.jpg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0e9569f95c42a3617dba24367d5a428b727ee8ad

Wensong clocking them yet again. The ink she made might be inferior in quality but more importantly the reason behind why she made the ink is also as important

https://preview.redd.it/zt7a3f668z1h1.jpg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=43fa736917d8819a7c1b20b6135e2d9bba890204

I didn't even realize 5 months had already passed from when she started learning to make ink on her own

Third Master Chen finally talks some sense into Li Jinshui. He made an oath not to practice ink but that doesn't stop him from teaching others especially his talented granddaughter who is very much interested in learning how to make ink

Episode 6

https://preview.redd.it/07oh2nrl7z1h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bb7837db6782db3e626727e74b88f6a617f0da3a

Li Jinshui finally takes her as his apprentice so now let the hard work begin

I just knew they were going to be pissed at each other and I was right 😂. He wants her to learn the basics while she is eager to move to the next step as fast as possible and thinks something as minor as twisting lamp sticks is a waste of time...

At least he's able to make her laugh and go home. Never underestimate the power of grandparents

https://preview.redd.it/mbxtigho7z1h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1160dfc2c6b144fdc2e33234532e85631883c466

We finally get to see our ML after 5 episodes and boy does he love trouble and giving his father headaches 😂. Seems like he's a business lover but his dad is still hell-bent on making him an official

Are we sure Wensong actually said those words to ping'an or did ping'an just say them to spite on the Tian family. Wensong looks so consumed with his new ink findings that I doubt he has any time to even say all those things

I feel bad for Ronghua because now she has to get married with the rites of a concubine although she is the main wife

Li zhen I love you but it's going to be so hard to break off an engagement 😩 They went to meet Wensong but didn't even mention the part of Ronghua getting married like a concubine and just kept on focusing on cancelling the engagement.

A disaster is coming for the Luo family and with how quickly Wenqian's dad sent him off and how emotional he looked then it must be something really bad

https://preview.redd.it/6xa6z0er7z1h1.jpg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=88c17a45d1b058ff15acb463c6e028d55e08bc36

His dad is dead?? I was right when I said that it was really bad.

Tian Benchang's dad must be really happy because he gained what he had always wanted from the start...

https://preview.redd.it/hmewasrw7z1h1.jpg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3c329535f67677ed2e0b2c16035ff074b690cf33

Seems like Benchang is finally going down the villain path.... Why do I feel like Wensong is going to die 😭... I hope I'm wrong but there's a high possibility of that happening in the next episode

The Heir 家业 EP 1-4 discussions

Masterpost

It's nice to be back hosting and I'm really excited to dive into this drama, discuss it and hear others opinions 😆. This is a drama I have been excited for and the first 4 episodes are very promising. I will be adding a bit of mini historical facts here and there.

I'm not really good with words so please do bear with me... Thanks in advance

Episode 1

Note: The Jiajing reign (1521–1566) of the Ming Dynasty (mid ming dynasty) led by the Jiajing Emperor (Zhu Houcong), was the second-longest in Ming history

I like how we are thrown into the past story of the Li family and I have to say that young li zhen is so cute. That hairstyle though is not my favorite…

I initially thought it was only 2 families that were involved in ink making but I was so wrong. We have 4 different families (Li, Luo, Chen Pan). We are quickly thrown into the tribute ink competition between the Luo ad Li families (I would take it that they are the 2 most powerful ink making families out of the 4)

https://preview.redd.it/mr4qxjwsos1h1.jpg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c9f2f8266a77843cc8527c358519ae7f23d74a61

These paintings are so beautiful OMG. I volunteer to keep them safe in my home

All these talk about the ink having “bone” or soul is so foreign to me because both paintings look so ethereal

https://preview.redd.it/yhgfn6lxos1h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=898ef5a03629137cc46b355bd09b5ed394e2c653

Li Zhen is definitely an ink loving child and you’d know that she has good knowledge a bout ink for her to mention a solution to the dead lock

Congratulations to the Li family for winning the rights to the tribute ink. This means their ink gets to be presented to the emperor which is such a big deal and calls for a big celebration.

They have 8 branches so the family is definitely going to be BIG. All the sister in-laws look so happy working together except for the 7th sister in-law. Something tells me I won’t like her

We are introduced to young luo wenqian and my goodness what is that hairstyle. Li zhen saves him and it seems like the start of a beautiful friendship

The Li family has been making ink for 100 years and have 8 branches. The first to fifth branches are now merchants while the remaining 3 branches are the ones who are carrying the ink legacy.

This is one of the few instances where the head of the family is the 7th branch. I would have thought it would be the first branch or 6th branch

Li zhen taking Luo wenqian and other friends to participate in the traditional mo qiu, they almost get caught and he gets injured while they were getting away

I didn’t realize that rogue ink could be used to treat injuries (I’m definitely going to do some research on that)

Luo wenqian is so cute pretending not be hurt infront of li zhen

Sometimes li zhen talks like a matured woman because why is she asking him for his ambitions for the future at this young age?

Li zhen is definitely an ink prodigy with the way she identified all the ink sticks by their smell and you can tell that she really loves ink. I see her becoming very big in the future if she continues to learn ink making.

Luo wenqian’s dad doesn’t look so fun… I guess he’s still bitter about not winning the tribute ink competition

Tragedy has befallen the Li family. Their tribute ink got burnt, the 3 brothers got imprisoned, they got fined heavily foor the next 10 years, the next heir died, the next heir Jingqi died, the 6th brother got crippled and their family’s reputation took a great hit… all these because li zhen’s father got drunk??

That fire is really suspicious and I’m sure we’ll get back to that later on in the series

The 8th branch has been removed from the family and it’s really sad seeing the whole family get torn apart because of this horrible incident.

Episode 2

I do understand that Li Jingqi’s wife is going through grief but she never really liked the 8th branch anyways so this is a perfect excuse for her to get at them

Li zhen’s dad looks really really sick… I don’t think he will be alive for much longer

Eldest sister in-law is the best. I love her so much Tian Benchang and Ronghua are such darlings even as kids. If I’m not mistaken, they are the children who played with Li Zhen dring the Mid Autum festival where they met Luo Wenqian

https://preview.redd.it/biy4gha1qs1h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9c3110683047bc1e6c930db2ed246e85d2cfca4a

Loving the conversation between the Luo siblings. Luo Wensong really knows how to communicate with his younger brother and give him better insights to the world and how to decide on his future. Their age gap is also really cute

Li Zhen is really taking up responsibilities, asking around and gathering information to help the family at such a young age

I did say her dad might not live long… he had tuberculosis plus depression is a terrible combination

https://preview.redd.it/c5m4rfz4qs1h1.jpg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5cc5c58e1f1a11c2c0301f1d39e95c9bfbe90d32

…and they were shut out by Li Jingqi’s wife causing her dad to die because he wasn’t treated on time. They are moving from one tragedy to another and I’m just baffled on how they got here. They were such a big happy family before

And just like that, 10 years passes by…

Love how we get explanations on some of their culture, the rules and reasons for them. Looks like the Full Phoenix Procession is something every bride must have. I think it's more like a dowry

Li Zhen is very observant and good at making people spend their money. She’s a businesswoman through and through

https://preview.redd.it/r0feul0iqs1h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4954a37c5d707416f0c83d01ca9a6e44bcd37871

So she’s marrying Tian Benchang? She’s all smiles so it is definitely a wedding she’s happy with. Unfortunately, we all know the wedding wouldn’t go through because he isn’t the ML

Glad to see Li Zhen and Ronghua still so close to each other and having so much fun together. On the other hand, I love the voice of the actress who acts as Ronghua. It’s deep and nice to the ears

Benchang dropping by Li Zhen’s house to do his son in-law duties aka firewood chopping. He has to impress his in-laws and what better way to do that if not chopping wood. It’s a double kill because not only are the in-laws impressed, but his future wifey can also admire him.

That firewood chopping worked big time because now she gave him her birthday inkstick which is an equivalent of a vow. This is a really intimate gesture and this means she really likes him and is looking forward to their marriage sigh…

Seems like things aren’t going well with the ink production from Benchang’s side. If this deal falls through then it will definitely ruin him and his family because he would need to ay back 10x the original amount

Seems like even Luo Wensong isn’t having a good time either… His tribute ink preparations are going badly

It’s a bit unfair for Wensong to accuse Benchang of cutting corners to achieve fame because it seems like he really worked hard on those lampblack

The Tian family were originally slaves? I’m genuinely shocked by that

Wensong is starting to look like a villain here because he knows getting the Li family ink formula is impossible and for them to get it, they would have to do it through illegal means

Benchang's dad had to do a mini jump to slap him 😂

His dad wanting to achieve success through his children’s marriages is a plan that is destined to fail BIG time

Episode 3

Even the Li family is facing problems… times are hard for everyone it seems

Jiangyue really won’t let the 8th branch breathe even after 10 years.

Love a female lead who stands up for herself and her family. After everything they went through, she won’t let anyone talk down on her grandfather

https://preview.redd.it/jb1hupnvqs1h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2114267f3cdb7b95ccc7accef1fa5416ef2687a9

Tian Benchang really came to ask her for her family’s ink recipe?? Is he naïve or what because there’s no way she would actually give him. It’s like giving out your family’s trade secrets out.

I’m loving this innocent pure version of Benchang right now. I wonder what really made him snap and change for the worse

THEY DID NOT JUST INVOLVE LI ZHEN’S MUM IN THIS MESS

I see Zhenniang’s brother falling for this pity party Benchang staged. His words are mostly true though but his methods…

Wedding day is here and I can forsee something bad happening

This wedding is such a mess OMG. I see li zhen’s brother looking guilty so we all know he definitely did it and it is inside her dowry.

https://preview.redd.it/ku0o4da6rs1h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a86a6ed5c5435c2d3bf61c876beea875df98b0e6

https://preview.redd.it/cfbrqea6rs1h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=71767b214274b708427edabe5699c6d6ecabfe1f

I’m bawling my eyes out right now. Li zhen’s grandfather has gone through so much for his family. He can’t practice ink-making again and even went as far as breaking his tooth as compensation… I can’t even imagine the level of pain he had to go through at that old age just to give the Li family an answer.

Is Benchang kidding me right now?? Still yapping about the wedding after all that went down

Wedding is called off, tears and blood are shed and no one is happy. Jindong must be smiling in his heart for achieving that

https://preview.redd.it/l1e8saf9rs1h1.jpg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1bdec7e0849f5fb319452c89889d827521eb0d62

Li Zhen is such an opportunist. So happy to see her moving on with her life instead on fixating on the past

This grandfather-granddaughter duo really melts my heart and now I miss my grandfather

Episode 4

So Zhengliang has a fiancée? I thought Zhenniang said that she thinks he was taking a liking to someone and not actually engaged

https://preview.redd.it/hw15z9lers1h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=df459bddfd77e7cf7e6b646a05ef12f07f95bae6

I don’t know if Benchang is actually naïve or faking it because there’s no way he thinks they can go back to the past

Li Zhen is such a strong girl. She only dared to cry when she was alone and even tried so hard so as not to make a sound. She has gone through so much in her life and I just hope that it get’s better for her later on

My girl besties are back together. I was scared that they were going to separate because of Benchang

Glad to see Li Zhen still has her ink knowledge and skills after all these years and was able to pick the same pine as Wensong

https://preview.redd.it/a5obyuhirs1h1.jpg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fad4ade5f18f9b285c89e4c4e10b483e30dff2ca

Li Zhen and Wensong are so funny in their conversations that I almost forgot he was the reason her wedding was called off. It seems like he also knows how valuable that stick on ink is…

Li Zhen is such a hustler. I love her so much for that.

Oh I see you li zhen… she’s no saint and is getting back at wensong for ruining her wedding

When I think I’m going to dislike Wensong, he talks and I start to like him again and agree with what he says. He really has a way with people

So she did tell him the end about how to store the wood… seems like his talk really stirred something in her

https://preview.redd.it/pwcxcllmrs1h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=72db4197dd2c3513dfb7d901dfd2d887aefe7049

Jiangyue finally speaking her mind. Her long time anger isn’t because she loved her husband so much but because she cannot become the clan matron anymore

Li Zhen spitting facts. Her 3rd uncle and 4th aunt are just scared that the 8th branch will start their own ink business and do better than them that’s why they’ve been on their neck for so many years and won’t leave them alone

https://preview.redd.it/v28jtsbprs1h1.jpg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c082578a9615547bca626e7f0ca5c3541b898b33

It took her 10 years of pain, hardwork and watching her family get insulted for her to finally speak up and start learning ink making. It was always her dream and something she loved. Even Wensong could tell that she really loved making ink just from his brief encounter with her. I’m really happy and excited for her standing up and speaking her mind. Now hopefully her grandfather will approve and start teaching her soon...
