Viewing a ford thunderbird Diamond Jubelee edition
Hey everyone,
I'm going to view a 1978 Ford Thunderbird (Diamond Jubilee Edition) soon and I'd love some advice on what to look out for before I potentially buy it.
I'm a beginner when it comes to mechanics – I have basic electrical experience and can do simple stuff, but I've never bought a classic car before. So I want to go in prepared.
Specifically I'd love to know:
- What should I physically inspect on the body? Any rust-prone areas I should check carefully?
- What should I look for under the hood – any obvious red flags?
- What should I listen for when the engine is running? Any sounds that are a bad sign?
- What should I feel for during a test drive – steering, brakes, acceleration?
- Are there any specific parts on the '78 Thunderbird that are known to fail that I should specifically check?
- Any other tips for a first-time classic car buyer viewing one of these?
I want to go in with a checklist in my head so I don't miss anything obvious. Any help from people who know these cars is hugely appreciated. Thanks!
