My experience with Aventon

Sorry for the rant.

I’m a mostly happy AA2 owner. When the bike works it’s great but around 6 months into owning the bike it became pretty clear something was wrong. The battery would sit at 100% for about an hour of riding then drop insanely fast, I’m talking like 80% in 15 minutes followed by a pretty bad burning smell.

I purchased the bike online from a non local dealer and all of my local private bike shops will not service “department store e-bikes” and the local Aventon dealers will not service bikes they didn’t sell. So I reached out to Aventon and they sent me a wiring harness and a guide. I replaced the harness and still had the problem. They sent me a battery, but the problem persists.

Then the bike developed an e27 error code and the rear motor just stopped working. So that got replaced but they forgot about the battery drain problem. Something is cooking these batteries.

After fussing with Aventon support for days they finally convinced a local dealer to look at the bike. He replaced the computer, the bottom bracket. I Got the bike back and it’s even worse now. I genuinely don’t know how that’s possible. But it’s going full black screen and won’t turn back on unless I take out the battery. All the lights are flickering (like proper strobing) and my chain is crazy loose now and slapping around like crazy. The shop didn’t diagnose anything but put in parts and didn’t even test the bike.

I’ve clearly got a lemon, they’ve sent more parts than the bike is worth. It’s been serviced by a professional chosen by the company. Honestly, I’m just hoping someone at the company reads this and actually gives a damn and helps me get this whole thing situated.

Biggest takeaway though for sure is buy your bikes local.

EDIT: Aventon is exchanging the bike.
