How can I take out this coil spring mechanism?

Basically the coil springs on 3 (!) of my sash windows have broken and I'm being quoted £400 per window for repair.

Can I take out and replace this spring mechanism myself? I don't see a wider opening anywhere along the cavity where the mechanism sits that would allow me to pull it out.

Well the tickets went fast

I purchased a Southbank Centre membership to get access to the presale, got onto the queue the second it opened -- there were already 22,000 people in the queue ahead of me, by the time I got to the website I saw this. :/

I'm so tired of things "aligning" or "relating" to other things

I'm not a native English speaker so my sense of how artificial such constructions sound might be off, but I feel like before the rise of AI I used to see far fewer student essays talking about how a real-world event "aligns" with a theory or a study.

"This relates to social identity", "This aligns with critical psychology". No analysis, just aligning two concepts against each other like pancakes and hoping the reader doesn't notice that you haven't actually applied a theory or explained anything.

And it's in 80% of the essays I read, but even in the bad ones, the ones where it's clear no AI wrote the final draft because it's a word salad.

Whoever figures out how to transcribe handwritten notes into markdown will be my personal hero

Boox user here. E-ink tablets (Boox, Remarkable) offer a fantastic writing experience but are atrocious for knowledge management. In other words, they are great for writing things down but a major pain when trying to access or find your old notes after you accumulate many of them.

I've been trying to set up a workflow where pdfs of my notes get synced with OneDrive and are then read and transcribed by an AI, but my vibe-coded script just doesn't work. I've spent hours on this over multiple sessions and nothing works and I give up.

The most common suggestions I see online are:

"just use Excalidraw!"

I don't want to use Excalidraw. On an e-ink tablet it's laggy as hell. I want to use my tablet's native app. Plus I already have hundreds of notes on meetings and books that are already in the native app, so switching to Excalidraw does nothing to preserve them.

"Just use Boox's native OCR"

The OCR on this tablet is dogshit, it takes so long to transcribe 2 miserable little pages that I might as well dictate them into obsidian instead. Its text detection is also atrocious. And the process of exporting the text into a .txt file, copying it to the obsidian vault, and then transferring its contents to a new note and editing all the transcription errors manually just kills my soul.

"just attach your PDFs to a new obsidian note"

I don't want to read giant ugly squiggly handwritten pdfs on Obsidian, I want proper markdown, searchable, with links and ![[sections]] you can cite in other notes, and all the formatting.

It's ridiculous that we don't have a solution for this. It's been 5 years since the AI revolution. This thing was supposed to cure cancer. People are making full movies with this technology, surely we can make a one-click markdown transcriber that doesn't take 5 times longer to import the stupid note as it would take to type it up manually.

Hi everyone, I got my first APAP machine (ResMed Airsense 10) about a week ago and I'm still very new to this.

I've had no issues with it until last night, when at random points throughout the night the machine would get stuck in constant blow mode. Pressure drops, air starts blowing out of the vents around the elbow connector, and the noise wakes me and my wife up. It doesn't resolve itself until I restart the programme, at which point normal pressure returns and the mask feels sealed again, but after an hour or two the pressure drops again.

It doesn't look like a loose/worn connector, as that wouldn't be fixed by restarting the machine. The fact that a manual restart resolves it indicates it's most likely a software issue, right?

I'm looking at my data in OSCAR and was able to identify the moments pressure is lost:

https://preview.redd.it/fwlns41w23zg1.jpg?width=1596&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e9c7e26101045c548aa5495909419e683bbe759c

So, my tentative hypothesis is taht the machine automatically increases pressure until the vents give in and start leaking air; pressure drops, the machine tries to compensate by increasing pressure, but the vents won't close, so it's stuck in blow mode.

Problems with this explanation: Not sure why restarting the programme fixes it though -- maybe pressure drops enough for the vents to close again? Also, the pressure graph doesn't just show a drop in pressure; the line completely disappears, which might look like a software issue (e.g. the machine no longer tracks pressure and is unable to adjust it -- although that doesn't explain why the mask vents stay open).

Does anyone have any alternative explanations?
