Is the attacking unit just not allowed to roll a 1-4 at all or am I understanding this wrong?

I am currently painting my Army in the Style of Batim/Batdr and I want the eyes to glow in an orangy yellow like the lost ones in Batim/Batdr but don't know how to get the glowing effect to look good
